Buggy the Clown is one of the early antagonists of the One Piece series. He rose to prominence after the Summit War, and then became a member of the Shichibukai. After the Shichibukai system was abolished following the Reverie, he co-founded the Cross Guild with Mihawk and Crocodile, thus becoming one of the Four Emperors.
Recently, a fanart by an X user @foonie_xd, based on a crossover between One Piece's Buggy and Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna has been doing rounds on the internet. The artwork jokingly shows Buggy defeating Sukuna in a boxing match using the power of his Devil Fruit.
One Piece: Fanart shows Buggy defeat Jujutsu Kaisen's Ryomen Sukuna using his Devil Fruit powers
A fan-art from an X user named @foonie_xd has been doing rounds on the internet. The fan-art shows Jujutsu Kaisen's main antagonist Ryomen Sukuna against Buggy Clown from One Piece in a boxing match. The fan-art titled "Know Your Place", depicts that Buggy has defeated Ryomen Sukuna in the match by the power of his Devil Fruit Bara Bara no Mi. Buggy's limbs are detached from his body and are floating in air while Sukuna is knocked out.
Even though the fan-art is a joke, it is to be noted that Buggy does have a single advantage on Sukuna, which is that buggy is hard to cut and Sukuna's Cursed Technique is mostly cutting based. Although it will in no way help him win, it might baffle Sukuna long enough for Buggy to escape.
Using his power of the Bara Bara no Mi, Buggy has survived against powerful characters like Dracule Mihawk in the Marineford War arc.
How did the One Piece and Jujutsu Kaisen fandoms reacted to this artwork?
After the fan art went viral on X, the post was inundated with comments from fans humorously siding with Buggy, claiming that the Captain of the Cross Guild could defeat the King of Curses.
"I mean, seeing as his powers literally lets him split himself in to pieces, he might put up a decent fight, “might”", a fan said.
"A Fraud vs The True Protagonist of One Piece", another fan jokingly said.
"BUGGY D CLOWN WINS AGAIN", said a fan.
"Buggy: “Laughs” So much for the king of curses!", a fan joked.
However, some fans remained loyal to Sukuna, believing he could defeat Buggy within seconds, rather than appreciating the artwork. It's important to understand that fan art is meant to be taken lightly, and fans should avoid engaging in heated discussions over it.
"let’s be realistic Buggy ain’t winning", a fan said while supporting Sukuna.
"sukuna is ending buggy", another fan said.
"He’d melt that clown stop", a fan stated.
The power disparity between the worlds of Jujutsu Kaisen and One Piece makes comparisons challenging. Sukuna, the most powerful Curse in Jujutsu Kaisen, and Buggy, a One Piece character with potential to counter slicing and cutting attacks, illustrate this well.
Even if Buggy could counter Sukuna's cutting techniques, he would still be vulnerable to Sukuna's Fire Arrow, leading to his defeat.
Final thoughts
The fan art cleverly highlights the imaginative crossovers that fuel fan communities. While Buggy's unique abilities might offer a brief advantage against Sukuna, the artwork ultimately serves as a playful reminder of the limitless creativity and fun within the anime and manga fandoms.
