Konosuba season 3 episode 10 review: Darkness' wedding begins as Kazuma and co learn the consequences of their actions

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 revealed the true meaning and purpose behind Darkness’ marriage to Lord Alderp, as well as her actions leading up to that reveal. Officially released on Wednesday, June 12, 2024, the episode did indeed elaborate on this but did not yield the answers fans were expecting to receive.

Along the way, Konosuba season 3 episode 10 also saw Kazuma’s true feelings regarding the situation come out, likewise tearing down his tough guy exterior on the situation. However, this also emphasizes just how much he cares for Darkness and everyone at the party, culminating in a hilarious and exciting final few scenes of the installment.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Darkness and Lord Alderp’s wedding be officially announced to the public with a date. Meanwhile, Kazuma gave up on helping Darkness until she cried out for help. Megumin scolded him for this and said she’d do something in the meantime while asking Kazuma what he was working on, which was a primitive form of bubble wrap.

Aqua and Kazuma were then approached by Darkness’ butler, who handed them a letter they received from Megumin quite literally threatening an act of terrorism. Aqua then revealed her plan to get Darkness out of her house, which started with gathering a large crowd. She then yelled out to Darkness about not wanting to miss her greatest trick ever, but Kazuma dragged her away to go back home.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Aqua say she’d come back every day until Darkness came out. Several days later, Megumin finally returned after the pursuit of her over her terroristic threats had ended. As they ate, she said it was time for him to help them, but Kazuma once again said he wouldn’t do anything until she asked for help herself.

Megumin berated him before saying that the man she loves may complain the entire time, but would come through regardless. However, Kazuma hilariously called her out on her ploy and didn’t fall for her kind words in any capacity. The episode then jumped ahead to the day of Darkness and Lord Alderp’s wedding, where Kazuma was still making bubble wrap while Megumin pitched plans to him.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Kazuma advise against her going for how poorly it would end, adding that he won’t be attending the wedding. Megumin berated him for not caring, which finally broke him and forced him to reveal he did care. He then explained how Alderp was known to treat women over and over again, and how frustrating it was that he never left any evidence behind.

Megumin argued that there was even more reason to help Darkness, but Kazuma said there was no opportunity for them to make any moves, which is why they needed her to ask for help. Kazuma then explained how her father was sick, and they likewise had no other nobles they could rely on for help here. A saddened Kazuma chalked the situation up to different lots in life, while Megumin acknowledged that he had been thinking of a way to save her all this time.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Megumin say she’d give her plan some thought and do what she thinks is best, asking him to do the same. As she left, Vanir entered, promising to help Kazuma while explaining Wiz’s newest invention. Vanir then offered Kazuma a massive briefcase of cash in exchange for the ideas he came up with from his world, which Kazuma agreed to.

Vanir then used his abilities to explain the situation, but just as he began doing so, Aqua burst in and attacked him. This led to the reveal that Darkness’ butler had returned, but left due to thinking Kazuma was busy while Vanir regenerated. He then explained to Kazuma and Aqua that this all started with the destruction of the Mobile Fortress Destroyer from the canon film.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Vanir reveal that while the town was protected, the farmlands surrounding it were destroyed. This forced the peasants to approach Lord Alderp for help, who rejected them. This prompted them to go to the Dustiness family, in turn revealing that the flood Kazuma and co caused had already wiped out most of the family’s wealth. Likewise, this forced the Dustiness family to borrow money from Lord Alderp.

However, the condition was that if they couldn't pay it back, Darkness marrying Lord Alderp would be the payment. Kazuma angrily asked how much Darkness owed, to which Vanir said the money he gave Kazuma and the group’s personal assets would just about cover the cost. Vanir then said they could talk business while the focus shifted to Darkness’ marriage ceremony preparations, where she was clearly upset.

Konosuba season 3 episode 10 saw Darkness smile as she mused on her adventures with Kazuma and co, saying to ask for anything more than she already got would be selfish. She then justified her actions as doing right by the citizens, while musing on what the others would say to her if they knew the full context.

The ceremony began with Darkness entering the chapel, following her until she stood next to Alderp before the priest. However, the priest began insulting Alderp and referred to herself as a god, as well as Darkness being pressured into the marriage. It was then revealed Aqua was the priest, while Kazuma grabbed Darkness before shedding his disguise and running away with her as the episode ended.

While not as overtly so as the earlier installments this season, Konosuba season 3 episode 10 still does a fantastic job of mixing character development into narrative progression. This is best shown via Kazuma in this episode, whose frustration with the situation eventually builds into revealing that he truly does care for Darkness and is bothered by the situation.

In turn, this also leads to significant character developments for others in the episode, with Megumin and Darkness being the best two examples. Fans saw the former begin to confess her feelings for Kazuma, albeit for manipulation, and the latter come to realize that being with Kazuma and the others is what she truly wants in life.

In summation

With the escape operation having begun in Konosuba season 3 episode 10, the next installment is likely to open with a flashback of seeing Kazuma and co’s plan explained. However, it’s unlikely to go as planned as usual with the party, with this being especially true considering Lord Alderp’s involvement and desperation to marry Darkness.
