My Hero Academia chapter 426, released on July 1, 2024, mostly focused on the Todoroki family who faced Toya Todoroki. After facing the villain, the family left, leaving Dabi's fate open-ended.

The chapter also showcased Hawks and Lady Nagant who were discussing the state of the future. The chapter also showed some villains who supported the heroes during the final war arc and were pardoned.

But the fandom is confused about leaving Dabi's fate 'open-ended.' The majority of the fandom wanted him to live in exchange for Endeavor's life or something related to this, but considering he chose his path as a villain, the ending of his tale as something undecided makes a much better ending for his character.

My Hero Academia chapter 426 was titled The Hellish Todoroki Family - Final. The chapter commenced with the Todoroki family arriving at the chamber where Toya Todoroki's body was kept. He was close to his death, meaning that the family had only a few moments to share with their long-lost member.

The conversation started with Dabi mocking his father again, after which the Pro Hero announced his retirement. He also claimed that he would visit his son every day as a way of making amends. Dabi fell quiet after this. Before the family exited the room, Shoto asked Dabi about his favorite food.

After the family exited, every sibling announced their future roles. Hawks also messaged Endeavor, asking him how his meeting with his son went. Hawks was also appointed as the next president of HPSC as he discussed with Lady Nagant about her future plans. The chapter ended with a focus on Spinner, lying in a hospital as someone entered his room.

As indicated by the title of this chapter, this would be the last time the series focuses on the Todoroki family, meaning that Toya Todoroki's future fate was left open-ended. This would mean that fans can imagine the fate of this character in whatever way they want to.

Although his tale was unfortunate, Kohei Horikoshi's reason for ending his character's fate in such a vague manner indicates that there are always two sides to everything.

Yes, Endeavor and the rest of the family didn't look for their son after the forest fire because they only found his jaw and considered him dead. But this shouldn't be a reason for Dabi to turn a villain and take revenge on his family. Whatever everyone had said, he should have at least appeared in front of his family to tell them that he was alive.

The Todoroki family and Dabi are to blame for everything that happened after Dabi became a villain. So, leaving Dabi's fate open-ended is perfect for the fandom as everyone sees the villain's tale from their perspective and can imagine whatever they see fit after chapter 421. So, this was the best move Kohei Horikoshi could make as an end for Dabi.
