Logia Awakenings are coming in One Piece, but it likely won't be Kizaru who introduces them

Lately, One Piece has been heavily focused on Devil Fruit Awakenings, where various characters, whether it is Luffy, Lucci, or even the Five Elders, have all showcased their respective Awakened forms. However, it is the Mythical Zoan-type Fruits that have hogged the fans’ attention. The Logia-type Devil Fruits, on the other hand, seem to have taken a backseat, although fans know there are plenty of powerful Logia users such as Blackbeard and Akainu.

Logia-types were once hailed as the most powerful and rare variety of Devil Fruits, granting their users the ability to transform their bodies into a specific natural element, as well as generate and manipulate that element in limitless quantities. Even Dr Vegapunk was unable to synthetically create these fruits.

While it officially remains unconfirmed whether Logia Fruits are capable of Awakening, a fan theory has emerged suggesting not only the possibility of such an Awakening but also speculating on which character might be the first to reveal an Awakened Logia Fruit in One Piece.

One Piece fan theory suggests a Marine will make a comeback with Logia Awakening

The fan theory posted by user @ViscaParsa on X suggests that Smoker, who has the power of the Moku Moku no Mi Devil Fruit, could be the first character to achieve a Logia Fruit Awakening in One Piece.

Smoker has largely been absent from the spotlight in recent arcs, especially after his humiliating defeats at the hands of Donquixote Doflamingo and Vergo. Moreover, there are currently too many Marines, such as Koby and Fujitora, who deserve to emerge as the heroes of the story. In fact, as the story progressed these high-ranking Marines started to get even stronger, till Smoker seemed to become completely irrelevant.

On the other hand, some Marines, including Kizaru and Kuzan, have been stealing the show because of their emotional conflicts. And with Akainu being speculated as one of the ultimate villains in the Final Saga, displaying unimaginable power, the scope for Smoker to regain the spotlight seemed improbable.

However, as per the spoilers, Smoker will be seen briefly in One Piece chapter 1117, riding his Billower Bike, somewhere in the New World. This reappearance seems to suggest that Smoker may have a more prominent role to play in the story after all.

Smoker was not present with his subordinate Tashigi when she ventured to Hachinosu to rescue Koby. The fan theory suggests that this could be due to him having other priorities, such as his training, which could potentially lead to the Awakening of his Logia-type Devil Fruit.

According to the fan theorist, Smoker being the first to exhibit a Logia Awakening instead of an Admiral like Kizaru can be attributed to several crucial reasons. Firstly, Smoker's introduction in chapter 97 marked the debut of Logia Fruits in One Piece. As the first Logia user presented by Oda, it would be fitting for Smoker to be the one to reveal the next stage of Logia's powers, as Oda is known for creating parallels in his storytelling.

Secondly, Smoker's ambition and determination to compete with powerful adversaries have been a key aspect of his character. This ambition positions him as someone who would actively seek ways to bridge the gap between himself and the formidable opponents he encounters.

Finally, it is speculated that if Smoker does indeed unlock his Logia Awakening, it would likely occur during an upcoming arc, such as during the Straw Hats’ stay at Elbaf.
