Loki's Devil Fruit in One Piece may be Greek-mythology based, not Norse

The One Piece manga recently introduced the character of Loki, the prince of the Giants of Elbaph, and there are a lot of theories regarding who he truly is and what his motivations are. Moreover, there are doubts when it comes to what his Devil Fruit is, since it seems that he killed his father— King Harald— for it, which could be connected to a Greek figure from myth.

A person on X named @writingpanini came up with a theory that One Piece author Eiichiro Oda could have taken inspiration from the mythological figure of Greek culture, Prometheus. This is because Loki calls himself the Sun God, thus connecting with the element of fire that Prometheus was connected with throughout the myths, which could suggest the plot of the Elbaph arc in the coming chapters.

Explaining the One Piece theory that suggests that Loki could be inspired by Prometheus from the Greek mythology

As aforementioned, the X user @writingpanini came up with the theory that Loki's Devil Fruit could be inspired by the mythological Greek figure, Prometheus. It has been stated that Loki apparently killed his father to get this Fruit— which suggests that is going to be important and powerful, while also connected somehow to the element of fire.

A direct connection is made by the fact that Prometheus, in Greek mythology, stole fire from the gods, which could be a parallel to Loki taking the Devil Fruit from his father. Prometheus was also known to be a trickster, which fits with Loki, who is the Norse god of lies, and the character was already seen deceiving Luffy to get a reaction out of him.

It is implied, then, that if Loki is set free, he is going to bring the end of the world, and is going to require the real Sun God of the series, Luffy, the wielder of the Nika Fruit, to defeat him. This would imply that this Giant is going to be a villain for the Elbaph arc, although his role as an enemy or an ally is yet to be fully confirmed in the manga as of this writing.

More elements in this theory

Loki's Devil Fruit being fire-related in One Piece would make a lot of sense when considering that his brother Hajrudin wanted Portgas D. Ace's Fruit in the Dressrosa arc. The Giant stated that he could have a chance at the throne if he got the Devil Fruit, which could suggest that fire plays a role in ruling in Elbaph, although it could also be interpreted that he would simply be a lot more powerful.

If it's true that Loki is a potential destroyer, this could also add more context to Hajrudin's desire to get Ace's Devil Fruit since his brother is a major threat. When considering Loki's ambition and the fact he has potentially killed his father for power, this could be the main plot of this current arc.

Final thoughts

Loki's connection to Prometheus has some basis in One Piece and would also add some greater depth to his character. However, it is also worth taking into account that this is merely a fan theory.
