One Piece is currently undergoing the Elbaph arc in the manga, and the character of Loki has been poised to have a big role in this current storyline. The character has already been introduced as the one responsible for his father, King Harald's death. Alongside that, his eating a powerful Devil Fruit has led some fans on X to come up with theories regarding his role in the series.

A user named @realzoro_o has come up with the theory that Loki is going to be a major player in One Piece and play a role in the fall of the World Government, thus representing the "end of the world" as he had proclaimed during his introduction. Moreover, his current state as a prisoner could indicate several possible reasons why he fell into that situation, which, in turn, could define his characterization moving forward.

Explaining what Loki's role in One Piece could be moving forward

The theory starts by stating that Loki has become a prisoner for apparently killing his father, King Harald, which suggests that someone else, such as Shanks' twin, did it and framed him for it. There is also a possibility that Loki might have done it. It is probably the former since Loki taunted Luffy by mocking Shanks, which could suggest that the twin was using the pirate's name to do as he pleased.

The manga already stated that the people of Elbaph had a legendary Devil Fruit which Loki ate and as per this theory, Harald was perhaps a puppet of the World Government. Seeing his father make a deal that would probably bring the world into chaos, Loki chose to take his life and eat the Devil Fruit so others didn't have it, which could explain why the God's Knights entered the Land of the Giants to kill him.

It has been shown that the female member of the God's Knights can shoot bandages and both her and Loki are covered in them, which could suggest they have met before. Perhaps the reason why they are attacking now is due to Figarland Garling now being a member of the Gorosei, giving them more freedom to do what they want.

More reasons for this

Loki was seen talking with Mosa in the One Piece manga as he stated that his true nature will be revealed to him when he is set free, which fits with his comment of bringing an end to the world as the "Sun God". When considering that he thinks that he is the Sun God, Nika, who the Giants worship, this could mean that he refers to the world as seen under the rule of Imu.

It is also worth pointing out that the Giants are inspired by Norse mythology and Ragnarok represents the end of the world through the destruction of the Gods. This could mean that Loki is going to contribute to the fall of the Celestial Dragons, the Gorosei, and Imu, which fits with the idea of them being perceived as deities.

Final thoughts

Loki's role in One Piece could go beyond the Elbaph arc and could be one of the biggest architects of the World Government's downfall. It is early in the arc as of this writing, so fans can only speculate, but it seems that author Eiichiro Oda is preparing something special for this character.
