Luffy's secret dream in One Piece could lead to a new Devil Fruit's birth, and it makes total sense

One Piece has established a lot of things regarding its lore and one of the most recent was Dr. Vegapunk's statement in the Egghead arc where he said that Devil Fruits are created because of people's dreams.

This leads to this theory involving how Luffy's could be making a new one. It was already established by the end of the Wano arc that the protagonist has a secret dream and a Devil Fruit could be the result of that.

There have been several One Piece theories but a recent one on Reddit has mentioned how the legendary treasure could be the tool that creates Devil Fruit. Within that context, the idea of Luffy's dream taking the form of a Devil Fruit seems more valid by the end of the story, and his ship, the Sunny Go, could be the wielder of said Fruit.

Explaining how Luffy's secret dream could create a new Devil Fruit in One Piece

Dr. Vegapunk established during the events of the Egghead arc that Devil Fruits are created by people's dreams. While that is a very abstract way to describe it, it could be inferred that the legendary treasure, the one the series is named after, could be the tool that creates said Fruits.

Therefore, author Eiichiro Oda could be making a symbol that the dream of reaching said treasure is what is going to create more Devil Fruits. If that is the case, then Luffy could be accessing that tool by the end of the story, which could have a lot of ramifications, including his own dreams.

The manga revealed during the events of the Wano arc that Luffy has a secret dream that only his crew members are aware of. The audience is yet to know what it is, even 1121 chapters into the story, as of this writing.

Therefore, if Luffy can create a Devil Fruit that reflects his dream, he could potentially give it to the Sunny Go. It was already shown that ships have souls and objects can consume Devil Fruits if they are injected with it, which could be an interesting symbolism of how he accomplished his goal.

The idea of what the One Piece is has plagued the fandom for decades and there is a very good chance it will continue to do so until the infamous treasures are revealed in the manga. Eiichiro Oda has crafted one of the biggest mysteries in anime and manga history, with this treasure having possible connections to the World Government, the Void Century, Joy Boy, and a lot more.

It has been speculated that the treasure is something that can't be moved because Gol D. Roger's crew never took it away. There is also the theory that it needs to fulfill certain conditions to be used since it was revealed that Roger and his men arrived "too early", although that cryptic narration is everything fans can speculate with at the moment.

Final thoughts

There is no certainty of what Luffy's secret is, and there is even less certainty with what the One Piece is. However, if this theory proves to be true, it could be a fitting conclusion for the protagonist's journey as well as giving a satisfying origin to the Devil Fruits.
