Dragon Ball Z fans have always made a lot of jokes about the character Yamcha and his several losses in the series. However, a recent fanart of his battle with the Saibaman also showed a more positive side of the fandom. Yamcha has never been the main focus of the series and never had a lot of opportunities to showcase his battle prowess. Despite that, he is one of Goku's earliest friends and has been helping the main cast as much as he can.
Therefore, it could be argued that the Dragon Ball Z portion of the story definitely hurt his character in the eyes of the fanbase. However, his charm and loyalty as a friend have endeared him to a significant portion of viewers and readers. It is borderline impossible that the franchise is going to give him a resurgence in the story because of the massive power difference but it would be fun to see him step up to the plate at least once more.

Dragon Ball Z fans would like to see Yamcha gaining prominence once again after recent fanart was published
InHyuk Lee is an illustrator who is known to have done covers for Marvel and DC comic books. Lee recently did a fanart of Yamcha's battle with the Saibaman during the Saiyan saga in Dragon Ball Z, which gained infamy because the former died when caught off guard by the monster.
This moment, along with several others, built a reputation for Yamcha being a loser but recent reactions online to this piece show there is much love for the character.
"I only watched DB classic when I was a kid and I thought Yamcha was so b*d*ss," one person said.
"Yamcha looking like a b*d*ss! Sick work," another person pointed out.
"Yeah, Yamcha respect! He was owning that fight," one more fan said.
Although Yamcha didn't make a solid impression during the Dragon Ball Z portion of the series, he was one of Goku's earliest human friends. He was also always willing to help even if the situations were stacked against him.
A good example of that is the Saibaman battle as he decided to face the creature first instead of Krillin because the latter already died once and couldn't be brought back to life. Yamcha actually defeated the Saibaman but was caught off guard and the creature self-destructed to take his life.
"I love this! Look at that handsome boy!!" one fan said.
"White spikes, death angels, predators and xenomorphs- Yamcha bullies them all. This is a suicide bomber than can bench press the titanic," another person said.
More love for the character of Yamcha
Yamcha has often been portrayed as one of the weakest characters in the main cast. However, this is also affected by the massive power creep that started in the Dragon Ball Z franchise.
In actuality, he is one of the strongest humans in the series. During his battle against the Saibaman, he made quick work of a creature that was as strong as Raditz, the Saiyan who managed to beat Goku and Piccolo with ease.
"Yall give Yamcha hell for this but the Saibamen were as strong as Raditz, who was casually mopping up Son Goku & Piccolo a year ago. AND he technically won the fight, which was insane growth from where he was at. Bro just caught with a suicide bomb," a fan pointed out.
"This is how the fight went in my head. Yamcha wasn’t no slouch. He just human lol" another person said.
Although Yamcha was portrayed as a loser at times, the fan reactions online prove that the character was well-liked.
