Medalist episode 1, titled Genius on Ice, introduced Tsukasa, an ice skater on the brink of quitting, and Inori, an 11-year-old passionate about ice skating. The former was called from Yokohama Prefecture in case of a job opportunity. So, he passed the time at a local ice rink. However, he witnessed Inori grabbing rental ice-skating shoes from a locker.

After a chase, Inori cleared the misunderstanding and revealed that she had a dream of becoming an ice skater. Tsukasa gave her the breakdown of what an ice skater makes and asked Inori to come with her mother tomorrow. The next day, while Tsukasa was being offered a job as a coach, Inori arrived with her mother. However, the mother was reluctant over not letting Inori become an ice skater.

However, Tsukasa was optimistic and wanted to give Inori a chance to pursue her dreams. So, they went for a trial run, and Inorit did every move flawlessly. However, Inori's mother still wasn't convinced. So, Tsukasa tried teaching Inori some professional moves, which she learned with ease. Although the mother appreciated Inori's talent, she wasn't ready to ruin another daughter's life through the same career.

The mother was adamant that Inori was too old and it was too late for her to start her journey. However, as a last resort, Tsukasa volunteered to become Inori's coach and bring her to the Olympics. Although the mother was scared of Tsukasa's enthusiasm, she agreed, and Inori was filled with joy over the start of a new life.
