Megumi's Domain will be completed before Jujutsu Kaisen ends, and it may combine with Yuji's to defeat Sukuna

Yuji's Domain Expansion was revealed in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 264. While the overall narrative and Yuji's hand signs have fueled numerous theories about Yuji becoming the next "enlightened one," many fans have also speculated that Yuji's Domain might be another incomplete Domain.

Although its details have remained obscure even in chapter 265, a few panels preceding Yuji's activation of his Domain have sparked many theories centered around Megumi's role in the conflict and how Megumi's own incomplete Domain might merge with Yuji's barrier to create a technique that will take down Sukuna.

Jujutsu Kaisen: Megumi's return will complete Yuji's domain

The silent rivalry between Megumi and Yuji has been a prominent part of the series, with Sukuna eventually deciding to possess Megumi. Throughout the series, Megumi is portrayed as more skilled, with a higher IQ and a more methodical approach, while Yuji’s actions are mostly instinct-driven, further widening the skill gap between them.

Although the series often made this skill gap ambiguous, Megumi managed to widen it even more with his "incomplete" Domain Expansion during his fight against a Finger Bearer.

This feat was later used to reinforce arguments that Megumi is superior and "special" compared to Yuji, as he essentially became the youngest sorcerer to achieve a Domain Expansion.

In recent chapters, Yuji managed to construct and trap Sukuna within his Domain Expansion, revealed at the very end of chapter 264. While the specifics of Yuji's Domain Expansion, including its rules and actual functioning, have yet to be revealed in the manga, the panels before Yuji activated his Domain made it clear that this was his first attempt.

The panels show Yuji recounting the benefits of constructing a Domain while also revealing that he had just learned the basics of barrier techniques. Domain Expansions are the pinnacle of jujutsu techniques, achieved by very few sorcerers.

A conventional Domain requires both a barrier and the innate domain to become a complete technique.

Megumi lacked the expertise to cast a barrier, resulting in an incomplete, barrierless Domain. However, Yuji's Domain is simply a barrier technique without much knowledge of constructing a Domain or imbuing a technique into it.

Megumi and Yuji's Domains end up as polar opposites, which implies that Megumi's return will be in the final fight against Sukuna inside Yuji's Domain. Sukuna was merged with Megumi when he was trapped in Yuji's Domain.

But inside the Domain, Sukuna appeared in the Yuji-Kuna form, suggesting that Yuji's Domain has somehow facilitated a direct battle between their souls.

Given that Sukuna and Megumi's souls did not merge, it is possible that Megumi will return in the Yuji vs. Sukuna fight and use Yuji's barrier as a canvas for his own Domain Expansion, completing a Domain that will take down Sukuna.

Final thoughts

Chapter 265 set up the final Yuji vs. Sukuna fight, with the latter becoming enraged at Yuji pitying him. While Megumi's whereabouts remain unknown, it is possible that he will appear in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266, which will be released on August 18, 2024.
