Now that Gege Akutami's Jujutsu Kaisen manga has finally concluded, fans are reflecting on their favorite characters and their most iconic moments in the series.

From Satoru Gojo singlehandedly holding off Sukuna in a 3-on-1 battle to the King of Curses dominating the entire cast while still in a weakened state, the series is filled with unforgettable moments for nearly all characters.

However, there is one character in particular, who, despite facing the collective ire of the fanbase following an infamous moment in the Shibuya Incident arc, finally got her time to shine in the final chapters of the Jujutsu Kaisen manga. This character is none other than Mei Mei, whose greatest moment, unfortunately, became sullied by her controversial scene from the Shibuya arc.

How Mei Mei's shining moment in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 was spoiled by her controversial scene in the Shibuya arc

In Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269, Gege Akutami surprised readers by explaining why sorcerers outside the New Shadow Style School could use the Simple Domain, despite being restricted by a Binding Vow.

Atsuya Kusakabe started his explanation by stating that the original creator of Simple Domain had created a Binding Vow to make the technique inaccessible to Curse Users. However, as generations passed, Simple Domain became a trade secret, as the head of the New Shadow Style School had monopolized the technique.

To learn the technique, one has to become a disciple of the New Shadow Style School and undergo unnecessary Binding Vows. Thus, the technique became almost inaccessible to people outside the school. There was also a rumor that the head of the school absorbed the lifespans of the users of Simple Domain; however, this was largely unconfirmed.

There was also no way to confirm this theory since no one knew the identity of the head of the New Shadow Style School. That is until Mei Mei discovered their identity and confirmed this speculation. She then proceeded to kill the head of the school for trying to turn her brother into "damaged goods" by absorbing his lifespan, which is likely her greatest moment in the entire series.

Additionally, this led to Kusakabe becoming the new head of the New Shadow Style School, who then nullified the Binding Vow that restricted the technique from being taught to outsiders.

Even though Mei Mei killing the head of the New Shadow Style School was perhaps her only good deed in the entirety of Jujutsu Kaisen, it remains sullied by her controversial scene in the Shibuya Incident arc.

Although fans on social media acknowledged it as Mei Mei's greatest moment in the series, they still weren't ready to forgive the character for her highly problematic scene with her underage brother Ui Ui in the Shibuya arc. In the scene, she was revealed to be involved in an i*cestous relationship with him.

What's worse is that this moment wasn't even necessary to highlight just how morally corrupted Mei Mei is, since her abandoning her fellow sorcerers in Shibuya was enough to showcase that.

Therefore, even though Mei Mei killing the New Shadow Style School head was indeed a massive help in the final battle against Sukuna as well as in saving the lives of the injured sorcerers, it still wasn't enough to redeem her as a character.

On that note, many fans agreed that if it wasn't for that one controversial scene with her brother in the Shibuya arc, Mei Mei's actions in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 269 would have reaffirmed a lot of people's faith in her character.

In conclusion

Mei Mei might just be the most hated character in Jujutsu Kaisen, possibly even more than Ryomen Sukuna himself. The intense hate that she receives from the fanbase is certainly for a good reason and is unlikely to fade away, even after several years.
