MF Ghost season 2 episode 4 review: Sawatari leaves Beckenbauer behind while Kanata gains ground in the rain

MF Ghost season 2 episode 4, titled Sawatari Koki, the Demon God, aired in Japan on Monday, October 28, 2024. The episode continues the intense race at Ashinoko Lake, where Sawatari beats Beckenbauer, who has been dominating the race until this point.

Meanwhile, viewers see the other racers facing increasingly challenging conditions as they enter the death zone of the track, which has become extra slippery due to the volcanic ash that has accumulated there. One of the drivers ends up losing control. However, Kanata seems to be gliding through the stretch.

In the previous episode, Kanata picked up the pace and overtook many of the other racers, thanks to his expertise in drifting, which he learned from Fujiwara. His time training in England under wet and challenging conditions also proved crucial to his success on this slippery course.

While these cars can reach speeds of up to 400 kph, heavy rain significantly reduces their speed to about 250 kph. Thus, Kanata, whose car has a maximum speed of approximately 200 kph, is able to take advantage of the conditions and move past many competitors.

The episode cuts to an interview with MFG Angel, Moe, who is asked about her favorite food. She mentions her love for barbecue and expresses a desire to dine at a popular restaurant that is notoriously difficult to book.

Upon discovering that the General Manager of MFG frequently visits this restaurant, she makes an appeal to him to take her there. The General Manager, watching the broadcast, decides to treat the entire team.

Meanwhile, in MF Ghost season 2 episode 4, Sawatari is close behind Beckenbauer in the race. He decides to pass him once they enter the challenging Death Zone. When the opportunity presents itself, Sawatari accelerates through a corner, but does not anticipate Beckenbauer's decision to stay on the left side, causing their cars to bump into each other.

This unexpected contact actually benefits Sawatari, as Beckenbauer and he race neck and neck after the incident. They collide two more times in a fierce battle before Sawatari finally takes the lead.

Beckenbauer is furious at his humiliation, but is determined to get his revenge. His sister Agnes, meanwhile, is worried about him, knowing that driving is his only strength— a second-place finish would deeply depress him, possibly causing him to isolate himself and refuse to eat.

In the meantime, Kanata shows off his impressive driving skills, passing Sakamoto in a turn and performing a spectacular drift before catching up to Daigo. Daigo, however, struggles to maintain control on the slippery track and eventually swerves and crashes his car.

Watching MF Ghost season 2 episode 4 is a gripping, nail-biting experience. The pouring rain during the race makes it even more competitive and tense, which really adds to the excitement. Each racer has a different strategy and mindset, which shows under pressure.

Beckenbauer, not used to being challenged by any racer in MFG, is caught off guard and loses ground to Sawatari, who seizes the opportunity to overtake him. Kanata keeps his cool and stays focused which sets him apart from some of his competitors. In contrast, Daigo seems to be struggling with anxiety and loses control of his car. This mistake costs him the race.

In the previous episode, the race continued at Ashinoko Lake, where Kanata was able to easily overtake some of his competitors despite the challenging wet and slippery conditions.

While the race was going on, the MFG Angels were being interviewed at the same time. Viewers got to see Ren being questioned about her views on masculinity.

On the track, Kanata had some trouble, but managed to pass Taylor's Porsche. The commentators noted that Kanata, Sawatari, and Beckenbauer all had a European background, which may have contributed to their ability to perform under difficult conditions. Meanwhile, Sawatari was determined to overtake Beckenbauer, whom he considered lazy.
