Minato Namikaze, the Fourth Hokage, was one of the strongest shinobi from the Hidden Leaf Village in Naruto. Unfortunately, due to the Nine-Tails incident, he died at an early stage of his life. During the Nine-Tails incident, the Fourth Hokage's display of bravery was worthy of commending, and what he did against Obito was something the fandom fails to appreciate because it was nothing short of a feat.

After a few exchanges of fists, Minato adapted to Obito's intangibility and looked for the perfect moment to strike. After using his kunai as a decoy to force Obito into using his intangibility, Minato hurriedly used his Flying Raijin Jutsu after the kunai passed through the Uchiha's body. This didn't give him time to manage his intangibility, marking his death, which also saved the Hidden Leaf Village.

During the Fourth Shinobi World War: Countdown arc, a flashback to Naruto's origins was revealed. After Kushina gave birth to the protagonist, a mysterious masked man (Obito) appeared. He kidnaps the protagonist before his parents and threatens to kill him if Minato doesn't hand over his wife.

Fortunately, Minato saved his son before the worst, but the masked man escaped using his powers. After dropping his son at a safe place, Minato visited the village where Nine-Tails went loose because the masked man had let his chains loose from Kushina's control.

As Kushina was about to be crushed by the tailed beast she kept inside her, Minato saved and dropped her at the same place as Naruto, wearing his Hokage robe and leaving for the village to save everyone. After taking care of everything, Minato went after Obito, and these two had a one-on-one battle.

As expected, the Fourth Hokage couldn't land a single hit on Obito because he was using his intangibility (an ability of the Sharingan that made Obito's body penetrable without harming him). After trying to hit Obito a few times, Minato got the gist of how intangibility worked and waited for the perfect moment to strike.

Minato used his kunai to force the Uchiha to use his intangibility. As the kunai passed through his body, Minato immediately used his Flying Raijin jutsu and replaced positions with his kunai, striking Obito with his Rasengan. 'Intangibility' is not an unconscious ability, so the masked man had to activate it every time he wanted to use it.

After the kunai passed through his body, the ability might have been deactivated, a blindspot that the Fourth Hokage used to win the battle in just a few exchanges of blows. This feat should be enough to state that Minato was different than anyone else in the Hidden Leaf Village.

Final thoughts

Although it wasn't revealed why Minato was chosen as the Fourth Hokage, fans can speculate it through Minato's performance on the battlefield, with his battle against Obito being the highlight.

Unfortunately, he died young and had to leave his village in the hands of the Third Hokage. However, things could have turned out differently if he had survived the Nine-Tails incident.
