Mirio's path in My Hero Academia could've easily followed Lady Nagant's

My Hero Academia has shown time and time again that the variety of Quirks can have a lot of different uses depending on the user, with Mirio Togata being a prime example of what happens when someone gets the most out of their set of powers. While Mirio has proven to be a hero in every respect, his powers could have made him a natural assassin like Lady Nagant.

Kaina Tsutsumi, most commonly known as Lady Nagant, can turn her arm into a rifle. She is an expert shooter, making her one of the most notorious assassins for the Hero Public Safety Commission. Much like her, Mirio's ability to phase out of objects could have made him a master assassin in My Hero Academia, especially considering the degree of skill he developed using it.

Explaining how Mirio Togata could have been a master assassin like Lady Nagant in My Hero Academia

Mirio Togata's Quirk, Permeation, grants him the ability to become intangible, thus walking past objects and even people, to the point that he needs a special suit so he doesn't end up naked when using his powers. So, considering the nature of this power, he could be a fantastic assassin, perhaps even surpassing Lady Nagant.

As evidenced during his fight with Overhaul and his underlings, Mirio can even bypass people's arms and fists when they are fighting, which makes him quite practical to take people's lives. He could also reach Kai Chisaki faster than the others because he could walk through walls, meaning he would be a much more difficult target to escape from.

In many ways, he doesn't even have to deal with guards since he can bypass them, which is something that Lady Nagant cannot do. His only problem would be dealing with enemies who are a lot stronger than him, such as his encounter with Tomura Shigaraki in the final war arc, or examples such as Overhaul, where he had the bullets that could erase people's Quirks, but that case was very specific.

The only thing keeping Mirio Togata from becoming one of the most successful assassins in My Hero Academia's history is his good-hearted nature. He has proven time and time again that he is a bonafide hero, to the point that he managed to hold off Overhaul and protect Eri after losing his Quirk. He became the Number One Pro Hero after the eight-year time skip.

On the other hand, Lady Nagant, much like her successor Hawks, was corrupted by the Hero Public Safety Commission from an early age and had to do many despicable jobs, slowly destroying her moral code. Perhaps if Mirio had been exposed to a similar environment, he would have taken a similar path. However, both Nagant and Hawks showed the ability to learn from their mistakes and redeem themselves.

Final thoughts

Mirio Togata became the Number One Pro Hero at the end of My Hero Academia, but he certainly could have also been a great assassin. He had the potential, the Quirk, and the discipline to become one of the best at that, which shows the range of a versatile ability and a smart user.
