Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 saw the Shinjuku Showdown presumably approach its climax. After Sukuna failed to put Yuji down with his combination of slashes and strikes in the previous chapter, the King of Curses decided to completely empty out his arsenal in chapter 258.
Not only did he unleash his Domain Expansion on the few sorcerers left standing on the battlefield, but he also looked to put a decisive end to the long-drawn fight with the Fire Arrow that once leveled the city of Shibuya.
That said, there was another moment in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 that caught the readers off-guard. Kasumi Miwa, who is usually considered "useless" by most fans and herself, finally made an appearance in the ongoing fight as she rushed out to protect Maki Zen'in from the onslaught of Sukuna's Domain.
Miwa saves Maki from Malevolent Shrine in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258
Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 saw Ryomen Sukuna attempt to put a full stop to all the momentum that Yuji had managed to build up over the past few chapters, as the latter went blow for blow with the King of Curses, even injuring him in the process.
However, things took a turn for the worse right off the bat as Sukuna unleashed his Domain Expansion: Malevolent Shrine on Yuji and the rest of his allies on the battlefield. While Yuji and a few others were still in a condition to defend themselves, Maki Zen'in was perhaps the only one with one foot in the grave.
In the past few chapters, while Maki did manage to deal a significant amount of damage to the King of Curses, she also suffered two direct Black Flashes from Sukuna, along with a barrage of fatal slashes that took her out of the fight.
Although fans were impressed with her survivng Sukuna's first Black Flash, they quickly lost hope after she was taken out of the fight again after suffering attacks much worse than before. As such, fans became even more concerned for her when Sukuna opened his Domain.
Fortunately, Kasumi Miwa appeared in the nick of time to save Maki from the brutal onslaught of Malevolent Shrine. Given that Miwa has been mostly absent from the ongoing fight, fans were surprised to see her make an appearance in such a dire situation.
It should be noted that Miwa is no longer able to fight with her sword due to the binding vow she made during the Shibuya arc. As such, she could not participate in the fight even if she wanted to. In spite of all this, Miwa surprised readers by coming to Maki's aid, as she was seen using a Simple Domain to protect the latter from Sukuna's Malevolent Shrine.
Simple Domain is an anti-barrier technique that creates a small domain with a barrier around the sorcerer who casts it to protect them from the sure-hit effects of a Domain Expansion. So far in the ongoing fight, Kusakabe and Yuji have been seen using a Simple Domain to protect themselves from Sukuna's attacks and his Domain.
While Simple Domain does neutralize a Domain Expansion's guaranteed-hit effect to some extent, it does not ensure the complete safety of its users. In fact, it can be destroyed in seconds against a proper Domain Expansion, as seen in Yuji's case in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258.
As such, it's unsure as of now if Miwa and Maki were able to survive Sukuna's Domain without any significant injuries. Regardless of that, Miwa's bravery is certainly commendable. Seeing as to how she has been rendered unable to fight anymore, her entering the battlefield to save Maki's life in Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 258 completely refutes all the "useless" allegations that fans had heaped upon her in the past.
