Momentary Lily episode 1 dropped on January 02, 2025 at 11:30 pm after considerable build up by the animating studio GoHands. The episode began fairly simple but surprised viewers by immediately diving into the action. This first episode was touted to showcase the simple yet intricate approach taken by GoHands - a straightforward story with lots of action, cooking, and visuals.
The main cast were debuted one by one and viewers got to learn a little about the giant robots and the unique weapons the girls used to fight them. The cooking aspect of the anime was also underscored with Renge Kasumi elevating canned food and instant noodles to a near-gourmet level appearance and taste. All in all, the premiere set the stage for a promising journey ahead.
Momentary Lily episode 1: Opening battle sequence
Momentary Lily episode 1 began with HANABIE's "Oiishi Survivor" before transitioning to a brief shot of the main cast. These were five high school girls with distinct character designs and personalities, seated at what seemed like an abandoned cafe, each doing their own thing - reading a book, clicking away at a portable gaming unit and applying hand cream.
At this point, with no introductions done, one of the girls alerted the others about the arrival of something. The group instantly headed out, reaching a city square to be greeted by a giant circular machine which spawned a large blue gleaming body. Being called a "Wild Hand" by one of the girls, the robot led out a loud roar as the girls revealed their weapons.
Each one had a small pendant-like item that materialized into a large weapon, seemingly unique to their wielders. The girls wasted no time in engaging the giant robot, coordinating their attacks in a well-timed flurry. With the robot staggered, the blonde girl dove out of a nearby high-rise, fumbling to name her attack as she landed the final blow, destroying the unwelcome guest.
Kappou
Momentary Lily episode 1 then switched sequences, focusing on a little girl elsewhere. The words "so lonely" repeatedly echoed as viewers were finally introduced to Renge Kasumi. From her prespective, everything was normal till "the sky turned weird" and the robots invaded, wiping out all life. She somehow managed to surive and wandered aimlessly till she stumbled upon this girl group.
Nervous to her core, she hid from them and struggled to form words before being interrupted by all of them. Unable to handle the anxiety of finally finding people, she fainted. Upon waking, introductions were done and the main cast was revealed—Yuri Kawazu, Hinageshi Usuzumi, Ayame Sakuya, Sazanaka Yoshino and Erika Koudaiji. Noticing that they were about to begin a meal, Renge shot off on a tangent.
Eager to help them out, Renge would proceed to "Kappou" their boring canned food and instant noodles. Roughly translated, it meant "to prepare food" and that's what Renge did. She amazed the girls with her cooking skills, using the ingredients they had to cook up something special. By the end, Renge had cooked up Hitsumabushi Grilled Canned Saury, which the group enjoyed thoroughly.
Andvari
The girls praised a tearful Renge, who expressed guilt at using their ingredients without their permission. But the girls were quick to console, explaining that they loved the meal. Just as Ayame was about to shed light on the whole situation, the Wild Hands alert rang once more. This time, there was two of them together and they were in close proximity.
The girls took stance ahead of Renge, endeavoring to protect her from them. But here, Momentary Lily episode 1 showcased Renge summon her weapon. It came darting to her location which she gracefully mounted and in one swift blow, destroyed the Wild Hands before they could react. Needless to mention, the girls were too stunned to speak, watching Renge appear before them once more.
This is where Momentary Lily episode 1 went on to inform, via the girls, that the weapons being used were called Andvari. They were unique to their wielders and their power was being used to fight off the Wild Hands, the robots seen previously. It was also revealed, via Renge, that she had lost her memories, having no recollection how she obtained her Andvari or even her past.
Sympathetic, Yuri, the leader, extended her hand out to the girl, welcoming her into the group for what promised to be an action-filled ride.
