Move over Yuta and Gojo, Jujutsu Kaisen has a major body swap coming that could be Nobara's return

Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 unveiled the status of Megumi, featuring what is arguably his last conversation with Yuji. The chapter focused on Yuji overpowering Sukuna and Megumi eventually resurfacing, using his Ten Shadows technique to hinder Sukuna.

However, the final panel revealed one of Sukuna's fingers being sealed somewhere. This has sparked numerous speculations, including the possible return of Nobara, whose cursed technique is undeniably one of the most useful against Sukuna due to its ability to target souls from great distances.

While many are expecting Nobara to somehow recover from the fatal injury inflicted by Idle Transfiguration, it is also possible that Nobara could be subjected to a body swap with Angel to make her cursed technique usable again.

Hana Kurusu and Nobara have held a rather peculiar position in the manga, especially after the introduction of Angel, who joined the main cast shortly after Nobara's apparent death. Yuji himself expressed fear that Hana Kurusu might replace Nobara, but that did not come to pass.

However, Gege Akutami, the author, is known for his cruelty and irony towards his characters, so it is possible that Angel might replace Nobara in a more jarring manner.

Angel, who is currently coexisting with Hana, shares a condition similar to Yuji and Sukuna. Angel has been established as a sorcerer from the Heian era who accepted Kenjaku's invitation to reincarnate into the future. Despite this, Angel has expressed her disapproval of the incarnation process, believing it goes against "God’s law."

While Angel and Hana have lived in a symbiotic relationship, their incompatibility has been established multiple times throughout the story. Hana was deceived by Sukuna while he was in Megumi’s body, despite Angel warning her numerous times. Now that Hana has lost one of her arms, her efficacy as a vessel has further diminished.

Although Angel is committed to staying with Hana Kurusu, even when Hana disregards her commands in a fight, it is possible that Angel might switch to a different body given the circumstances. Jujutsu Kaisen chapter 266 revealed the presence of a Sukuna finger sealed somewhere. While the function of this finger after Sukuna’s death has not been specified, the possibility of damaging Sukuna using Nobara’s cursed technique still remains.

Nobara was last seen during the Shibuya Incident arc, where Mahito ruptured part of her head. Her wound was soon attended to by Arata Nitta, who put it in stasis. Although the injury was deemed fatal, her death has not been confirmed, leading many fans to believe that Gege is intentionally keeping her fate ambiguous to bring her back in future chapters.

Nobara’s wounds were inflicted by Mahito’s Idle Transfiguration, making them unhealable via Reverse Cursed Technique. However, it is unclear whether the incarnation process, where a sorcerer completely takes over a body, could heal the wound.

Given that Nobara’s cursed technique remains one of the most compatible techniques that could be used against Sukuna, especially with his fragmented souls, it is possible that Angel or someone else might take possession of her body to defeat Sukuna alongside Yuji.

Final thoughts

The story has progressed towards a plot more focused on Yuji and his overall growth towards letting go of his ideals and his “need” to save every single person. In the process, it has established Yuji as someone who will defeat Sukuna on his own by steadily climbing up to his level.

Although Yuji’s memories have shown Nobara as one of the loved ones that he lost, the story has refused to acknowledge her death directly. It is still possible that Yuji has not been informed of Nobara’s actual status due to the alleged soul connection he has with Sukuna, and Nobara potentially being one of the trump cards for the Sorcerers.
