Muzan from the Demon Slayer series is one of those antagonists who has managed to evoke hatred from the entire fanbase. Some villains are written in a way that allows fans to empathize with them, often because they have redeeming qualities or have become who they are due to certain circumstances.
However, Muzan is someone who is evil at his very core, and he would do anything to achieve his goals. It is very easy for him to kill anyone he desires, as long as it gets him closer to his dream, and that is immortality.
Ever since he became a demon in the Heian era, he has desired only one thing, to conquer the sun. This is his only weakness, and there is nothing else that could kill him. This leads to an interesting conversation that highlights the end of Lower and Upper Moon demons, should he have conquered the sun.

Demon Slayer: Why Muzan would have removed the very existence of Lower and Upper Moon demons if he achieved his goal
Kibutsuji Muzan wanted to conquer the sun because it was the only thing that could kill a demon. The incomplete medicine administered by the doctor from the Heian period caused some serious side effects. He started to crave human flesh, and sunlight was deadly.
All he needed was the Blue Spider Lily to eventually conquer the sun. This was also why he decided to turn Nezuko into a demon since he wanted to know if it was possible for a demon to be immune to the effects of sunlight.
What we need to understand is that the Lower and Upper Moon demons are some of the strongest foes out there. The Upper Moon demons are incredibly powerful, and all of them serve Muzan. He is someone who doesn’t need protection because it took the combined efforts of the entire Demon Slayer Corps to defeat him. If that’s the case, then why did he create the Upper Moon demons? This could be to help him find the Blue Spider Lily and hasten the process of finding a way to conquer the sun.
Once he had achieved his goal, Muzan would have been the most powerful being on the planet. There wouldn’t be a single human being who could take him on since the one thing that killed demons would no longer have a lethal effect on him. Muzan isn’t the type of character who likes sharing his powers with others. Others’ lives are of very little value to him, and this was evident in the manner in which he executed almost all Lower Moon demons in a fit of rage.
If he had achieved his goal and conquered the sun, he would have killed all the Upper Moon demons and continued reigning terror all on his own. This is why fans have reason to believe that all Upper and Lower Moon demons wouldn’t exist if he conquered the sun towards the end of this shonen title.
