My Deer Friend Nokotan episode 1 was titled Girl Meets Deer. The episode commenced with Torako on her way to school when she saw a girl hanging to the electricity wires. She tried to ignore her but the girl hanging by the wires made her feel the guilt of ignoring her. Torako then helped her get down and the girl called Torako a delinquent, exposing her dark past.
Torako ran away from her and reached school. Torako's class was receiving a new student and, ironically, it was the same girl Torako saw hanging on to the electricity wires. She made a flashy entrance by smashing her ateliers to the door, smashing it. The debris of the broken door hit the students sitting in the front rows, but the class still welcomed her.
Her name was Shikanoko but she was more commonly referred to as Nokotan. Amidst all this, Torako was confused as to why the class was welcoming a freak like her. She sat next to Torako and thanked her for saving her. Torako let bygones be bygones but she the former again called her a delinquent, which made the whole class question the good character of Torako.
After recess, Torako witnessed Nokotan cleaning an abandoned gym room. She decided to accompany her in the cleaning. After cleaning the room, their homeroom teacher entered the gym room and stated that the room would act as the Deer Club. Torako was forced to become the club's president and her only job was to take care of deer, one of which was Nokotan herself.
