My Deer Friend Nokotan episode 3 was released on July 15, 2024, on ABEMA, and it saw one of its protagonists do the "Bully Maguire" dance from the Spiderman 3 movie in all its glory.

The episode also saw the addition of two new members to the Deer Club after a big misunderstanding between the protagonists. The climax of the episode saw all members share their goals as to what they want to achieve in the Deer Club.

The key detail of the episode was Torako's dance, which she performed to see if the deer standing in front of her was real or if it was Shikanoko disguised as a deer. Her dance was the same as Toby Maguire's Bully Maguire persona, which took the fandom by storm.

What is the Bully Maguire dance featured in My Deer Friend Nokotan?

My Deer Friend Nokotan episode 3 was titled Enrollment Hiccup. The episode commenced with Torako running towards the clubroom as she was getting late, but as soon as she reached, she was confronted by an actual deer eating the club's rations (deer-crackers).

Torako thought this deer could be Shikanoko and tried to pull the deer's skin to pull the costume off. As expected, the deer didn't like it and kicked her away. She then tried another strategy but the deer didn't reveal itself as Shikanoko.

Annoyed by the situation, Torako pulled out her trump card—a book that had her embarrassing secrets inside it. She tried luring the dear into revealing its true self, and fortunately, it gave a response. Looking at the opportunity, Torako kept luring it and started singing an embarrassing song.

She also started to dance while singing. One of the dance steps she hit was the Bully Maguire step from the Spiderman 3 movie. Bully Maguire was the persona of Toby Maguire (Peter Parker) when he merged with Venom. This step from Torako took over the internet after its release and was the talk of the town before the official release of the episode.

Reactions of fans on the Torako dance

As expected, fans couldn't help but praise the anime series for including such a classic media reference that no one was expecting. Moreover, one fan even made a 1-hour version of Torako's dance, something that happened before with the "shikanokonokonokokoshitantan" dance video when the anime didn't even start airing.

"Peak anime," a fan claimed.
"If you wanna destroy your brain i did a 1h version," another fan commented.
"Anime of The year," another one claimed.

On the other hand, some fans were confused about the appearance of this dance in the anime as the first two episodes didn't feature anything like this. This is because this scene was from episode 3, and it aired four days before its official airing on Crunchyroll on the Japanese online streaming platform ABEMA.

Fans also didn't hold back on appreciating the Bully Maguire scene for its iconic and vibing dance as this dance might have motivated some fans to finally pick up the series, which hardly some part of the fandom was aware of.

"When does this happen? Is it for next episode?" a fan showed commented.
"Bully Maguire will forever be iconic," another fan claimed.
"Oh my fecking god I need to watch this show now," another one claimed.

Final thoughts

In 2021, animation studio Wit Studio filed for bankruptcy, which played a big part in its transferring ongoing projects, the biggest one being Attack on Titan. The studio shifted to animating "original" anime series like Ranking of the Kings.

With My Deer Friend Nokotan and some other future announcements, the studio is marking its comeback and is satisfying fans as always with other media references and so much more.
