1) Izuku Midoriya

In My Hero Academia, there is a noticeable change in the character design for Izuku Midoriya. Initially, his look matches the meek and uncertain personality he demonstrated at the beginning; having a basic costume that's not so special or eye-catching. When he gains confidence as a hero later on, it becomes more detailed, showing high-tech features alongside support items to boost his powers.
Towards the manga's finale, his design shows he is strong and sure of himself. His body appears more muscular while his face displays a firm expression. The suit has been improved greatly; it now includes armor that is stronger and also strategic enhancements.
These details symbolize his complete control over the One For All power. The way Deku’s design changes in the story matches how he goes from a boy without Quirks to becoming a Symbol of Peace.
2) Katsuki Bakugo
![Katsuki Bakugo as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/ca749-17229504682023-1920.jpg 1920w)
By the end of the series, Katsuki Bakugo's character design in My Hero Academia changes a lot. At first, he is shown wearing a simple yet strong costume, with gauntlets that look like grenades. They symbolize the explosive idea linked to him. As the series goes on, his costume becomes more complicated and high-level, showing how much he has grown in power and fighting skills.
Finally, his gauntlets have advanced technology that evolves his explosive power. Bakugo's body gets more muscular and defined too, which is a representation of the intensive training he does as well as how determined he is in life matters. Additionally, his hair, which is still spiky but is now a bit more refined, and facial expressions, changing from pure aggression to showing confidence and determination, are also depicted.
3) Shoto Todoroki
![Shoto Todoroki as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/6a260-17229503436718-1920.jpg 1920w)
At the start of My Hero Academia, Shoto Todoroki's costume was functional but not unique. It talks about him having two Quirks - fire and ice. As we go on with the story, his suit becomes more fancy and sophisticated, showing how much he has improved in dealing with both elements.
Also, Todoroki's look is different in the end as well. He seems grown-up and serious, with his burn mark showing a development of his own through the two-colored eyes.
4) Ochaco Uraraka
![Ochaco Uraraka as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3fe14-17229505539205-1920.jpg 1920w)
The character design of Ochaco Uraraka changes substantially during My Hero Academia, ending up with a more polished and functional appearance towards the end. At first, her costume is pretty and somewhat basic, which goes along well with her happy and hopeful nature.
As the story unfolds, the hero outfit gets multiple improvements to assist the Zero Gravity Quirk of this character. It becomes more loaded with gadgets as well as tactical elements. Towards the manga's ending, her design shows more confidence and readiness for combat. In addition to this, her physical appearance develops, making her display faces that are a mix of toughness and comprehension.
5) Eijiro Kirishima
![Eijiro Kirishima as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/30f33-17229506246641-1920.jpg 1920w)
At first, Kirishima has a straightforward costume that highlights his hardening Quirk in My Hero Academia. The design is simple with minimum armor and no frills. As time goes on in the story, his outfit becomes more complex to match his strength and confidence.
This new look includes rougher edges, showing off an even tougher side of him. This can be seen through the use of more rugged or jagged pieces in his suit design that emphasize the Red Riot character identity's tough nature.
Towards the end of the manga, Kirishima's look is more grown-up. His body becomes bigger and his expression gets stronger. His spiky and wild hair in the beginning turns into something sharper, like blade-like strands. Changes are seen in his costume too, with his armor becoming more distinct and textures getting finer. They show how he has progressed from being an eager student to someone who can protect others as well.
Yuga Aoyama and four other barely-changed end-of-series Class A character designs in My Hero Academia
1) Tsuyu Asui
![Tsuyu Asui as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/478fe-17229507020673-1920.jpg 1920w)
In My Hero Academia, Tsuyu Asui's design stays quite similar from the beginning to the end. The hero costume she wears, inspired by frogs and recognized for its green and black colors as well as its practical look, experiences just slight modifications.
These small changes seem more about improving her usefulness than changing her overall look. Tsuyu's appearance, with large eyes and a long tongue resembling that of a frog, is aligned closely to her original design. This highlights the distinctiveness of her Quirk.
This likeness of Tsuyu's design demonstrates her constant and dependable nature, always being there for the individuals in Class 1-A. Even though other characters alter greatly, Tsuyu's design is somewhat similar with minor variations - it manitains her unique look while displaying how she stays a reliable and strong hero.
2) Minoru Mineta
![Minoru Mineta as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/3d024-17229510296796-1920.jpg 1920w)
Minoru Mineta's character design in My Hero Academia is mostly the same across the series, showing his static personality and role. From start to finish of the manga, Mineta keeps his unique hero outfit based on grapes: a purple one-piece with yellow details along with white gloves and boots.
His special style, including the sticky purple balls in his hair, remains constant and represents his steady but maybe not-so-heroic character. The changes in the appearance of other characters in the series show their development and maturity, but Mineta's lack of design evolution highlights his funny and sometimes less serious nature. Moreover, his appearance remains loyal to its initial peculiar look.
It underscores how consistent his character traits are from the beginning to the end of the manga story.
3) Yuga Aoyama
![Yuga Aoyama as seen in the anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/d795d-17229511774285-1920.jpg 1920w)
Yuga Aoyama's hero costume is flamboyant and full of glitter to match his naval laser Quirk and undergoes only minor tweaks throughout the My Hero Academia story. The original bold and flashy look remains intact, and his costume's bright colors and starry motifs still show his extravagant personality and need for attention.
This absence of notable alteration is a clever way to highlight Aoyama's internal fight for self-approval and his later disclosure of insecurities. His continuous design represents the transformation in his character, especially when he shows bravery during the last fights. This shows that genuine heroism is found inside people, not only in their outside looks.
4) Koji Koda
![Koji Koda as seen in anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/f154c-17229512809349-1920.jpg 1920w)
The hero costume of Koji Koda, similar to his gentle and low-key character, is simple and practical in My Hero Academia. The focus is on practicality rather than showiness. This uniformity shows Koda's reliability; he does not undergo big physical or costume alterations. His physical look, soft face, and plain hero costume are similar for the most part, emphasizing his character as a quiet but reliable hero.
This design, not much changed in the story, also highlights his character's steadiness and the gentle aspect of his Quirk. Koda's power is more about talking to animals rather than flashy fighting. Koda's unchanged design represents how he remains consistent and steady in the series.
5) Momo Yaoyorozu
![Momo Yaoyorozu as seen in anime (Image via Studio Bones)](https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=190 190w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=720 720w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=640 640w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=1045 1045w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=1200 1200w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=1460 1460w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg?w=1600 1600w, https://staticg.sportskeeda.com/editor/2024/08/e1ef4-17229513744755-1920.jpg 1920w)
In My Hero Academia, Momo Yaoyorozu's appearance has not changed much from the beginning to the end of the series. Even though she experiences big development and her abilities advance, her basic look—an elegant hero outfit and unique hairstyle—remains constant.
The consistency in the design shows her unchanging personality and main beliefs, giving a sense of stability throughout the series. Her style, which is functional yet steady, does not change much, emphasizing her persistent character features and strong commitment.
Final thoughts
In My Hero Academia, the character designs of characters like Izuku Midoriya and Katsuki Bakugo have evolved visibly. This change indicates their development and the obstacles they have encountered in the story. Changes can also be seen in Shoto Todoroki, Ochaco Uraraka, as well as Eijiro Kirishima.
For characters like Tsuyu Asui and Minoru Mineta, their appearance is largely unmodified. Likewise unchanged are Yuga Aoyama, Koji Koda, and Momo Yaoyorozu with original designs that highlight their stability in nature along with core attributes.
