My Hero Academia has already shown the most unlike reconciliation, and it's in the Todoroki family

My Hero Academia is currently in its epilogue arc and has shown the conclusion of several characters, although one of the most surprising reconciliations happened with the Todoroki family. While is one of the most popular subplots in the story, most fans were not expecting Enji, most commonly known as Endeavor, and Rei to get back together as a couple, although chapter 426 showed that.

Indeed, that chapter of the manga had Rei taking care of the crippled Enji, which has been a divisive decision by author Kohei Horikoshi. Some My Hero Academia fans believe Enji and Rei are better off on their own after so many difficulties in their marriage, while others believe this reconciliation in the Todoroki family makes sense from a narrative perspective.

My Hero Academia showed the reconciliation between Enji and Rei in the Todoroki family

The Todoroki family subplot reached its conclusion in chapter 426 of the manga, which showed Rei taking care of Enji, most commonly known as Endeavor. This shows that the two characters have reconciled or are at least on good terms for Rei to take care of the father of her children. This has been divisive to a lot of people after everything they have gone through.

That situation also paints a direct contrast with their children since the likes of Toya, most commonly known as Dabi, and Natsuo haven't forgiven Enji for his mistakes. And while Shoto has been a bit more receptive, he has been more connected to his friends at UA, which suggests he is moving away from the issues within the Todoroki family.

It also has a bit of irony since Endeavor did try to take care of Rei when she was hospitalized and visited her and gave her flowers, with the roles now reversed. Both characters made considerable mistakes with their children, particularly Toya and Shoto, but seem to be willing to give each other a chance for one last time.

Exploring Rei and Endeavor's relationship and the impact of Dabi's actions

Enji and Rei Todoroki might have one of the most complicated relationships in My Hero Academia, and that is why their reconciliation has divided the fandom. They initially married out of convenience for Endeavor to have a kid with a strong Quirk. But they eventually fell in love and seemed to have everything they wanted when their first son, Toya, was born, even if he didn't have Rei's ice Quirk.

But as the problems with Toya began, Enji and Rei's relationship cracked, and the series begins with them apart from one another. However, Enji did try to grow as a person and repent for his mistakes, which is something that Rei noticed. This could possibly be the reason she was willing to give him another chance, even if some portions of the fandom might not be on board with this decision.

It is clear that Enji and Rei did care for one another and made mistakes as parents, making their conclusion feel bittersweet since their children have moved away from them. In many ways, now they only have each other, and Horikoshi seems to understand that, hence their conclusion in chapter 426.

Final thoughts

Within the Todoroki family, the reconciliation between Enji and Rei was probably one of the least expected by the My Hero Academia fandom. However, it has been shown time and time again that both characters care for one another, hence why this conclusion makes sense from a narrative perspective.
