My Hero Academia is mentioned by Burger King after McDonald's x Genshin Impact collaboration
As mentioned earlier, McDonald's announced their collaboration with the video game franchise Genshin Impact, resulting in Burger King stepping in and claiming that My Hero Academia is "better" on X. This is something that, naturally, caught a lot of people by surprise but was also a very entertaining response, to say the least.
Naturally, while a good percentage of fans of Kohei Horikoshi's series arrived to support the fast food chain's statement, other fandoms stepped in to offer their own opinions. It was all done in good fun and goes to show how anime fandoms can get along when not taking themselves too seriously.
Moreover, this is another example of how mainstream anime and anime-based content like Genshin Impact has become as companies of this caliber are making collaborations of this ilk. It has become common practice to a degree and is also a great example of the levels of popularity the medium has reached throughout the years.
Reactions online
My Hero Academia has recently concluded its ten-year run in Weekly Shonen Jump and the story has ended with some divisive opinions but that doesn't stop it from being one of the most popular anime franchises of the last decade. Deku and his friends have been an instrumental and iconic part of the medium in recent years and even this statement by Burger King is proof of that.
Author Kohei Horikoshi has been praised for creating a world filled with likable characters and an amalgamation of his love for battle shonen and Western superhero comics, thus giving his series a very unique tone. Moreover, this series has also gained a notorious reputation for having one of the most intense fandoms in the anime community, for better and for worse.
"I SEE NOTHING BUT FACTS!!!" someone said.
"burger king and mcdonalds beef goes crazy," another person said.
"I'm here for the MHA praise," someone else said.
This tweet really did surprise a lot of people but it was all in good fun and the type of banter that has become quite normal when talking about anime and other franchises of this ilk. As mentioned earlier, it also shows how much the medium has grown in terms of popularity.
