As the series’ final mainline release, My Hero Academia chapter 430 was expected to be a major wrapup chapter, concluding Izuku “Deku” Midoriya’s 10-year-long journey. Officially released earlier this weekend, the manga chapter did indeed provide the closure fans were looking for, even exceeding expectations in some areas.
As fans had predicted, My Hero Academia chapter 430 did indeed include a significant eight-year time skip, giving fans some perspective on the ultimate fates of their favorite characters. While there were some absences from the final chapter, most everyone who needed to appear did, making for a satisfying resolution to the series as a whole.
My Hero Academia chapter 430 concludes Deku’s journey in a heartfelt and satisfying way
My Hero Academia chapter 430: The not-so-far future
My Hero Academia chapter 430 begins with Tomura Shigaraki’s final words to Deku ringing back out, those being “it’s already destroyed… it all depends on what you’ll do tomorrow.” This leads to a narration from Deku himself as the focus shifts to U.A. High, seeing him scribbling in his notebook while wearing a suit. The narration parroted his monologue from the first chapter, only with some slight differences incorporating what he’s learned in his journey.
Kota, now a student at U.A., enters the room, calling Deku his teacher and asking where he wants the students to meet for practical skills practice. Deku says that they’re going to the USJ facility so they’ll meet at the bus stop, This begins additional narration from Deku, where he confirms that One For All has left him by this point while musing on what he learned the day of the final war.
Several panels appear here as he says this, some of which show Deku losing One For All slowly while others give updates on other characters. The main highlights of what My Hero Academia chapter 430 shows here are Katsuki Bakugo rehabilitating his arm, as well as Aizawa and Present Mic visiting Shirakumo’s grave, Class A graduating together, and All Might and Gran Torino spending time together.
As this all plays out, Deku muses on how he’s still in good spirits because of the voices he heard on the day of the final war. He contently says that if caring about others is the first step to becoming a hero, then they were all the greatest heroes on that day. He then expresses his gratitude that he got to live a dream he shouldn’t have been able to, saying it came to an end as One For All’s embers left him.
However, Deku teases that there’s more to his story as My Hero Academia chapter 430 confirms the eight year timeskip. Focus shifts to a middle school, where students are discussing their career paths and many want to become heroes or follow in the footsteps of famous figures from the story’s events. This includes the reveal that both Mei Hatsume and La Brava have started their own successful companies, with the latter also marrying Gentle Criminal.
A student named Dai is teased by others for wanting to become a hero given his Quirk, revealing that the rate of new villains and stabilization of hero numbers make it more difficult than ever. Dai then muses on how things have changed as he walks somewhere after school, thinking about how he wants to be like Endeavor, Bakugo, Deku, or Shoto as he heads to the All Might statue.
My Hero Academia chapter 430: To become a hero
My Hero Academia chapter 430 then begins a section recapping what some of the Class A students have been up to. Shoji and Koda are seen receiving commendation for their efforts in resolving prejudice-based incidents, earning him a peace prize which he dedicates to those who marched on the hospital. Meanwhile, Iida, Uraraka, Asui, and Momo are said to be visiting grade schools, with Uraraka’s Quirk Counseling project considered an essential aspect of society.
Focus then returns to U.A. where Eri is seen attending the school and speaking with her friends, a guitar case slung over her shoulder. Aizawa is then seen telling Midoriya about Bakugo’s latest exploits, which were yelling at a civilian recording him. It’s then revealed that Shoto and Bakugo are neck-and-neck with each other in the rankings, with Shoto finally shedding his moniker as “Endeavor’s son” thanks to the hard work and kindness he shows.
My Hero Academia chapter 430 also reveals that Mirio Togata has become the top hero, with Aizawa adding that Neito Monoma and Juzo Honenuki are also doing great. Aizawa asks Deku if he feels lonely, to which he says that Aizawa’s conversation with Fuwa during the epilogue made him realize there’s still heroic things he can do without a Quirk. He says he’s satisfied with this before asking Aizawa if he thinks he’s cool, to which Aizawa offers teaching advice instead.
Aizawa adds that they need to be stricter because of today’s society, where kids assume making it into U.A. guarantees them a great future as heroes. Later that day as Deku walks home, he explains that it’s been difficult seeing his friends since his days off and theirs don’t line up. Kirishima and Tokoyami are being discussed on TV as Deku walks to the All Might statue, where he goes when he’s feeling nostalgic.
My Hero Academia chapter 430 sees Deku save a child who falls as he walks, with Dai also trying to do the same but falling in turn. Dai then recognizes Deku, in shock at actually meeting him. The two speak, where Dai reveals his insecurity regarding the U.A. entrance exams and came to ask the All Might statue if he can be a hero too, like All Might and Deku. Deku remembers asking All Might the same thing, before analyzing Dai’s Quirk in classic fashion.
Deku then thinks to himself that since his dream has come true, it’s his turn to give other people dreams. He tells Dai not to worry and that he can be a hero too since he just reached out to save someone, as it’s revealed the All Might statue is now flanked by many others. Deku tells Dai to do his best and smiles at him before departing.
My Hero Academia chapter 430: The end…?
My Hero Academia chapter 430 sees Deku say he is feeling lonely, but is fine with it if he can encourage others as he did Dai. Deku says that this is the story of how they all became the greatest heroes as the issue and series seemingly ends. However, All Might appears at the last minute and destroys the word “end” with his list before asking Deku what took him so long.
All Might then reveals he has a surprise gift for Deku, saying the data from his fight as Armored All Might against All For One opened up many possibilities. Combined with the evolution of technology and the evolution of Quirks, he says that Deku once succeeded at using multiple Quirks at once, and that he likewise wants data from Deku. He holds out a briefcase with the number 18 on it as he says this, clearly offering it to Deku.
My Hero Academia chapter 430 sees Deku say how expensive this looks, prompting All Might to say it’s from “a friend from the US” (likely Melissa Shields) and Mei Hatsume. He adds it was funded by the Class A alumni, with Bakugo mainly doing so. As Deku becomes visibly emotional, All Might says he knows his body still moves on its own, telling him to take it to heart that this support item is a power he earned fair and square.
Deku smiles as tears well up in his eyes, when Bakugo suddenly appears and tells Deku to come along with him. Focus then shifts to Hawks, where he muses on heroes having more free time before reporting a landslide on a highway messing with traffic which they need the help of heroes for.
My Hero Academia chapter 430 sees Deku jump up in the air after donning his support item suit, seeing the ghost of Tomura Shigaraki on the ground as he does so. The issue ends with a spread showing a grown up Class A all united, including Yuga Aoyama and Hitoshi Shinso. As this appears, Deku says that this is the story of how all of them will keep reaching out their hands forever, officially marking the end of Kohei Horikoshi’s beloved series.
My Hero Academia chapter 430: Final thoughts
While the ending to Horikoshi’s series is far from perfect, it is nevertheless incredibly satisfying, especially in terms of allowing Deku to still end the series as a true Pro Hero. It’s also encouraging to see that the rest of Class A has gone on to become successful Pro Heroes themselves, even if others were given more of a focus in the final issue.
Overall, My Hero Academia chapter 430 serves as an adequate conclusion that addresses all of the major questions it needed to, especially as it relates to protagonist Deku himself. Likewise, the series’ message remains clear in the end, which is that anyone can be a hero even by doing something as simple as holding out their hand for a friend.
