There is no denying that Dabi being a Todoroki is one of the most prominent My Hero Academia fan theories and makes a lot of sense why fans were so proud when it was confirmed in the manga. This was a theory years in the making and shows how far the fandom can go to pick up on details and surprises that the author had in mind.

Some of the signs that many fans noted were how Dabi could use fire, much like Endeavor, his father, the burns suggesting that something awful happened to him, and his interesting interactions with Shoto Todoroki. This twist, the now-infamous "Dabi dance", broke the internet back when it was revealed.

2) All For One giving Shigaraki the Decay Quirk

A very interesting example of My Hero Academia fan theories was how readers and viewers managed to connect the pieces when it came to the origins of Tomura Shigaraki. He was originally presented as a kid named Tenko Shimura and was apparently born with the Decay Quirk that destroyed his family, although it was revealed in the final war arc that All For One gave him said ability.

This is one of the most important My Hero Academia fan theories because it defines Shigaraki's character arc and shows how All For One manipulated everything in that individual's life. All of this was done out of spite toward All Might and Nana Shimura, Tenko's grandmother, further cementing the lengths the evil overlord was willing to go to win.

3) Deku getting the mech suit

Deku losing his powers was a theory years in the making (Image via Bones).

This is a very specific case since this theory not only focused on Deku getting a mech suit but also losing One For All. A lot of people in the fandom thought that the protagonist was going to end the story as he started, which proved to be the case until All Might handed him a special suit like the one he used against All For One in the final war arc.

This was one of those My Hero Academia fan theories that focused more on the themes of the story and not so much on hints or clues. However, once All Might wore that suit against All For One, it set the stage for the protagonist to get an alternative for his powers if he chose to give them away at some point.

4) Hawks being a double agent

The moment Hawks was introduced in the story, he quickly became a fan favorite and a lot of people also noticed that he had some secrets. His conversations with Endeavor when they first met showed Hawks' special motivation to change society and when it was revealed that he was secretly working with Dabi and the rest of the League of Villains, some fans noticed that there was something off in this situation.

It was one of the most underrated My Hero Academia fan theories because a group of readers picked up on the fact that he had to be a double agent. He was actually working undercover within the League of Villains to defeat them, thus kicking up the events of the first war arc.

5) Mirio as the number-one hero

It is fair to say that, when it comes to My Hero Academia fan theories, the one of Mirio Togata becoming the Number One Hero was something that the story was very clear about. During Sir Nighteye's final moments, he managed to see a glimpse of Mirio's future and how he became the best hero in the world, which was fully confirmed in the eight-year time-skip of the final chapter of the manga.

It is also worth pointing out that Sir Nighteye's predictions were proven to be not 100% effective, as shown by All Might not dying in battle and Deku defeating Overhaul. However, the fact that Mirio became what his mentor viewed was probably author Kohei Horikoshi delivering a bit of fanservice.

6) The connection between Decay and Overhaul

There were some clear comparisons and parallelisms made between Tomura Shigaraki and Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul, from the moment that the latter was introduced in the story. A major detail in this situation was the fact that their Quirks were extremely similar, with Overhaul also having the detail that he can tear something apart and reshape it.

It turns out that this was another one of those My Hero Academia fan theories that were proven correct since chapter 419 of the manga revealed that Decay was a variation of Overhaul's Quirk. All For One took it and manipulated it so Shigaraki would have this Quirk and destroy his family, thus having the possibility to groom him and use him as a tool.

7) The All For One Orphanage

It has been long theorized that All For One was a major player in some plot points that seemed disconnected from each other. Elements such as how Dabi survived being burned alive when he was a kid or the origins of Overhaul were later on to be a part of the villain's plans and how he made them his tools to achieve his own goals.

That was one of the most prominent My Hero Academia fan theories: that the orphanage that was mentioned several times belonged to All For One. It was a somewhat underrated plot point but a lot of fans managed to pick up on the fact.

8) Aoyama being the traitor

There is no denying that the subplot of the UA traitor was one of the most prolific My Hero Academia fan theories. A lot of fans were coming up with their own theories and who could be the one working for All For One and the League of Villains, although Yuga Aoyama was one of the most prominent candidates and was proven to be correct.

Prior to the final war arc, it was revealed that Aoyama had been blackmailed by All For One and that his parents were at risk of dying if he didn't work as a spy for him. He eventually found a way out and joined Deku's side but fans picked up on this somewhat earlier in the series.

9) Kurogiri being Shirakumo

There were a lot of My Hero Academia fan theories that Oboro Shirakumo, the classmate and best friend of Shota Aizawa and Hizashi Yamada, was still involved in the story in some shape or form. It was eventually revealed that Kurogiri, one of Tomura Shigaraki's allies, was the body of Shirakumo after All For One experimented on it.

This is something that a lot of people picked up on and was confirmed long before it was confirmed by Horikoshi in the manga. It also proved to be a key moment in the final battle as Aizawa and Yamada got his friend back to aid Deku against All For One.

Final thoughts

There are more My Hero Academia fan theories that people got right throughout the years but these are some of the most prominent. It also shows how committed the fandom is to the story and how they managed to pick up on some of the hints and details that author Kohei Horikoshi established throughout the manga.
