My Hero Academia fans had mixed feelings when spoilers from chapter 429 made rounds on the internet. The main story concluded quite some time ago, and the manga artist is now focusing on the epilogue. One of the most important elements of the epilogue is the relationship that Deku and Ochaco share.

Many fans anticipated a confession scene between Deku and Ochaco in chapter 429 spoilers. Until now, the setting and circumstances haven’t allowed the duo to explore the exact nature of their relationship. Their only responsibility was to save the world, and they finally managed to do that.

However, there was no confession scene, which annoyed a substantial portion of the fanbase. With that said, these fans might not realize just how impactful the absence of a confession scene is.

Why the lack of a confession scene in My Hero Academia chapter 429 was crucial

Before we dive into this topic, it is important to understand Midoriya and Ochaco’s mindset after the war. While there was much happiness among the general crowd, only the heroes knew the price they paid for the win. They lost their comrades, and Deku and Ochaco, in particular, lost people important to them. Himiko and Tomura Shigaraki shared a complicated relationship with Ochaco and Midoriya, respectively.

Ochaco was still trying to recover from the fact that Himiko sacrificed her life to see her live. Furthermore, the hero realized that a few changes during the earlier stages of Himiko’s life would have altered her entire life, and she wouldn’t have become the villain everyone knew her to be. Similarly, Midoriya defeated Shigaraki Tomura but could not save him. His goal was to get through to Shigaraki, making him leave the dark path he set out on.

With these thought processes in mind, Midoriya and Ochaco were atop a hill and spent some time together, as per chapter 429 spoilers. Midoriya consoled Ochaco and held her hand while she processed her feelings. A confession of their romantic feelings would have been odd since they are still recovering from the scars the war left behind. They held and comforted each other in a time of distress.

Trying to force a conversation about romantic feelings at such a time isn’t particularly healthy, either. Emotions are at an all-time high, and both of them suffered from extensive amounts of trauma. It’s important to keep this conversation at bay and not use a romantic relationship as a coping mechanism. It seems Kohei Horikoshi fully understood this and avoided the confession scene in the manga series.
