My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen author's contrasting personalities
Kohei Horikoshi and Gege Akutami have been some of the most discussed manga authors of the current time due to the sheer popularity and impact of their series. While both of these authors have works that follow completely different tones, fans have also discovered that their author comments follow entirely different tones as well.
Both of these authors have reinforced their respect for each other's works. Horikoshi has done so in a constructed and analytical manner, while Gege has expressed his admiration in a way that reflects a fan simply enjoying a story.
Both of their series recently concluded their stories with their final epilogues. Consequently, their comments on each other have become a focal point of discussion among the Jujutsu Kaisen and My Hero Academia fandoms.
Fan reaction to the post
Few fans took the opportunity to mention how Horikoshi uses his words carefully to deliver an analysis-based appreciation of Gege's artwork. In contrast, Gege simply mentions the story elements that he likes. Many fans also pointed out that Gege's comments are sufficient, as an analysis is not necessarily required to appreciate stories.
"Horikoshi gave us an art analysis whilst Gege said lol nice," one fan said.
"gege real asf sometimes you don't have to overanalyze a story to enjoy it," another fan said.
Some fans interpreted Gege's words as a sign of deep respect. They argued that recalling a particular side character and an arc demonstrates genuine dedication to the story. Many fans also viewed both comments as potential fuel for future discourse. They predicted that fandoms might overanalyze these remarks to slander one or both of the authors.
"To be fair, Gege recalled a specific villain and specific arc so that’s more than a simple “I like this series”," one fan wrote.
"People will now overanalyze these comments. Simple words of enjoyment are no longer acceptable it seems," another fan said.
My Hero Academia and Jujutsu Kaisen concluded serialization with a total of 430 and 271 chapters, respectively. Both of these manga are currently available for reading on Shueisha's MANGA Plus platform. My Hero Academia's final season has already been confirmed for a release in Fall 2025.
