My Hero Academia's World Best Hero Popularity Poll was announced after the release of the final chapter of the series on August 5, 2024. The special thing about this poll was that it gathered votes from all around the world, instead of just Japan or the United States, giving fans a final answer as to who the most popular character from the series is.

With only a few days remaining until the final verdict, the results of the popularity poll seem to be one-sided, as Akatsuki Bakugo is reigning the ranks in all continents where it is taking place. Moreover, even though the exact number of votes hasn't been revealed yet, Bakugo might be the winner, just like in the previous poles.

On September 30, 2024, the final winners (top 3) of the World Best Hero Popularity Poll will be announced. These three characters will advance to the PLUS ULTRA STAGE, where the whole world will vote for them within a deadline of 24 hours, after which the final winner will be crowned the most popular character of the series.

As of this article's publication, the top 3 leads of the World Best Hero Popularity Poll are Shoto Todoroki (3rd), Izuku Midoriya (2nd), and Katsuki Bakugo (1st). Bakugo's supremacy in global popularity wasn't a surprise, as he dominated the previous polls related to the series, be it in Japan or the United States. Additionally, he also dominated the individual polls conducted on each continent.

Be it Africa, Europe, Asia, or any other individual part of these continents, Katsuki Bakugo dominated everywhere and proved that he was not only a favorite character in the series' home country but also in the entire world, making the World Best Hero Popularity Poll look like a one-sided fight.

Katsuki Bakugo as a character

Katsuki Bakugo (Hero Name: Great Explosion Murder God Dynamite) is one of the three tritagonists of My Hero Academia. He was introduced as a bully who didn't like Izuku Midoirya's guts, even though the latter had no quirks to start.

After Izuku got One for All from All Might and passed the exam at the U.A. High School, Bakugo started getting jealous, and it kept growing until he started physically assaulting him to admit that he was a weak person.

During the Dark Deku arc, when Deku took all the burden on himself and left the U.A., Bakugo fought to bring him back and apologized for everything. This became one of the key factors that led to the final war between the heroes and the villains, and not between Izuku and the villains. So, Bakugo was more than just a protagonist who was there for Izuku's growth.

Final thoughts

While this popularity poll did prove that Bakugo was the undisputed favorite of the fandom, it could have also taken away the excitement. The Naruto popularity polls had their winners shuffling between Kakashi, Sasuke, and Naruto, creating a sense of excitement and anticipation before the results were announced.

The same could be said for the popularity polls of most Shounen series, other than My Hero Academia, where Bakugo has been the undisputed winner since the first popular polls in Japan and the United States.
