My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16 was released on September 7, 2024. Despite the episode being an absolute masterclass in the direction and choreography of fights, it highlighted a key issue of the sequel, which was the pudgy character designs of characters as compared to the original source material.
While this didn't impact the story in the least, when comparing both media, the anime sequel could be seen as lacking as compared to the manga series. It is not possible to capture the true feeling of the manga in the anime because pictures in motion need different preparation as compared to stills. Nevertheless, the sequel is maintaining its overall standards.

Comparing My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16 to its chapters
My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16: The Heroes in trouble
My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16, titled The Chain Thus Far, adapted the remaining part of chapter 375 and chapters 376-378. The episode commenced where it left off in the previous episode as Toga and Dabi entered the battlefield where All for One was being kept behind.
The battle between the heroes and villains commenced immediately. Meanwhile, Twice's doubles entered the Coffin in the Sky and stopped Monoma from canceling TomurAFO's quirk. This made the villain's body explode, thus destroying the Coffin in the Sky and making it fall to the ground.
The animation stills of TomurAFO's body explosion were praiseworthy as the studio decided to go original in this regard, giving the villain a very vague yet horror look, as seen in My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16.
Moreover, with Dabi's return to the series with his awakened quirk, the studio gave every scene of this character enough love. However, the character designs of All for One's younger self and some other characters were pretty pudgy, which was obvious in the previous episodes too, but they now became evident.
My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16: The Villains return as Heroes
As the final war was now turning in favor of the villains, Deku saw his side losing. The Coffin in the Sky was crashing into the U.A. High, the battle against All for One was also turning its tide towards the villain, and there was nothing Deku could do. Suddenly, out of nowhere, hope appeared for the heroes.
While the Coffin in the Sky's system was being hacked by a villain, La Brava, a villain from the U.A. School Festival arc, took over the system and kicked out the villains by triggering some past trauma.
Moreover, Gentle Criminal, La Brava's partner, stood before the crashing Coffin in the Sky and used his quirk to envelope it inside an elastic suit to stop it from crashing. In the crashing Coffin in the Sky, TomurAFO was about to use decay and ruin all the efforts of the heroes, but he was shot by Lady Nagant, a former hero and minor antagonist from the Dark Deku arc.
The reveal of Gentle Criminal's time when he was released from prison after the break of Tartarus was the spotlight moment, as it showed how a villain's turning point. He was changed due to the kindness Deku showed him in the last moments of their battle. His animation of jumping into the crashing Coffin in the Sky was also top-class, giving the hero a proper redemption.
Moreover, the return of Lady Nagant had a deep meaning behind it because she escaped death when he lost to Deku. Her expression, as seen in My Hero Academia season 7 episode 16, portrayed that she was ignoring her fear to help people who didn't give in to the horror of the demon lord, All for One.
