My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17 was released on September 14, 2024. As usual, Studio Bones kept things simple with minimum improvisation to the source material. The production team made some 'interesting' color choices, all of which suited the episode's direction.

The episode continued with the former villains supporting the protagonists in their battle against All for One. Shigaraki awakened and tried his best to push aside All for One, while the battle with All for One got even more intense with the entry of Shiketsu High's students.

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17, titled Hopes, adapts chapters 379-381 and the first part of chapter 382. The episode began with a brief flashback to the Central Hospital, where Lady Nagant was leaving the hospital to help Deku and the heroes. As the doctor stopped a former villain from entering the battlefield, a Pro Hero let her escape and trusted her due to her claims.

Back to the final war, Lady Nagant hit TomurAFO twice, which awakened Shigaraki. Deku took this chance and jumped from the Coffin in the Sky so that TomurAFO would be able to use 'decay.' After gaining consciousness, Shigaraki took over his body and rejected the control of All for One. The colors used to show Shigaraki inside All for One showcased his agony, which was a nice addition.

Meanwhile, Gentle Criminal was reaching his end and called out to La Brava, requesting help. While he was doing so, some business course students from U.A., that were present on the Coffin in the Sky started recording Gentle. Gentle Criminal told them to get inside for their safety, but they wanted to show the world how a villain can turn to a new page.

The spotlight of My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17 was how Gentle Criminal was looked upon as a hero by students from U.A. Lady Nagant didn't receive such a spotlight, even though she deserved it. Nonetheless, the series animation of Gentle Criminal's beautiful quirk was again worthy of praise, just like the previous episode.

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 17 then shifted to the Gunga Villa site, where the heroes were fighting against Toga's Sad Man's Death Parade. While everyone was busy, All for One tried to run away so that Shigaraki wouldn't take over his body again.

However, he was stopped by Hawks. Unfortunately, the villain hit Hawks hard enough that his body vanished into thin air. This surprised Tokoyami, but the reality was that it was just a fake Hawks, which was created by Camie, the Shiketsu High student, who Toga impersonated in the past.

Other students from this High School were also present on the battlefield. The entry of Camie and other heroes from the school took the spotlight as they saved Hawks from potentially dying. However, this enraged All for One to the point that he was ready to steal the quirks of the students.

On the other hand, Tokoyami released Dark Shadow and packed a punch, combining his quirk's raw strength and Inasa's quirk's wind pressure. He then hit the villain with a punch titled Black Abyss: Light of Baldur. As expected, the animation of Tokoyami's final move was top-notch.
