My Hero Academia season 7 episode 21 was released on October 12, 2024. The production team of season 7 ended the season with a bang by putting their all in the episode. While no improvisation in the episode could've made the episode better, the addition of the flashbacks made it different from the source material.

The spotlight of the episode could be the final moments of Himiko Toga, which managed to capture the exact feeling of the source material. However, Armoured All Might's fight was also second to none with the Pro Hero's smooth transformation.

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 21, titled Battle Without a Quirk, adapts the chapters 395-98. The episode commenced with a recap of what happened in the previous episode's climax, where Toga finally calmed down. After this, Uraraka started facing the toll of the blood loss she experienced in the fight against Toga and the villain couldn't see her suffer.

Toga then used a small amount of Uraraka's blood and transformed into the Pro Hero to match her blood type and started a blood transfusion. Even though Uraraka was adamant about not doing so, Toga kept doing it, and after the transfusion was complete, Toga lay down beside Uraraka, and both of them fainted.

Although it wasn't confirmed whether Toga died or not, it was heavily hinted that she could be dead because of the heavy blood transfusion. The scene where the villain lay down beside Uraraka was an important panel from the manga, which showed two innocent girls in the middle of a war. Although the scene wasn't as effective as the source material, it still did justice to the manga panel.

On the other hand, My Hero Academia season 7 episode 21 also commenced the fight between All Might and All for One. It saw the former opening a new suit, which was developing with the help of David. The suit utilized the quirks of the students from Class 1-A.

In the start, everyone was hesitant about All Might fighting All for One without his quirk. However, as pathetic as it may be, the former Symbol of Peace managed to hold back the demon lord pretty well, showing that his sense of being the strongest hero in the world was intact.

Unfortunately, All for One's combination of quirks outclassed All Might's combination of Class 1-A's quirks. However, giving up was not a chance, as All Might had to keep buying time for Izuku to take care of TomurAFO. So, the former Symbol of Peace resorted to provoking the villain.

The scene where All Might started laughing hysterically was different from the manga, which showcased the former Symbol of Peace's glory days. This scene depicted despair but the anime skipped it and only showcased the hero laughing. This could also be considered an injustice because even though All Might was fighting with his all, deep inside, he felt despair over the current situation.

Final thoughts

My Hero Academia season 7 episode 21 climaxed by showing the condition of everyone from Class 1-A, as the students were all drained with only Izuku fighting off against Tomura Shigaraki. However, after the ending credits, the episode showcased the same card that Bakugo dropped before his possible demise, hinting at his return in the final season.

So, did My Hero Academia season 7 outclass its source material? Of course not. There were some instances where the anime stood out but it didn't outclass Horikoshi's way of depicting war and expressing characters. However, there is no telling what the future holds so look forward to the release of the final season.
