Given how big One Piece and Naruto are in the anime and manga community, the respective fanbases tend to get into petty squabbles every now and then. Platforms like Twitter and Reddit have become places where fans gather and attempt to have discourses and debates surrounding their favorite characters.
In this case, one of the members of the anime community decided to compare Ace from One Piece with Itachi Uchiha from the Naruto series. These are two characters that are unanimously loved by their fanbases. The writing for both these characters was great and they displayed a considerable amount of depth. However, the fanbases seemed to have a bit of a dispute when these characters were compared.

The debate began when Twitter user @aizenika56 wrote that Ace was a better brother to Luffy in comparison to the relationship Itachi had with his younger brother Sasuke Uchiha.
The person who posted went on to clarify another detail before a war erupted. They stated that Itachi Uchiha was a better character in comparison to Ace, but the latter was much better than the former when it came to playing the role of a brother.
One of the main reasons why One Piece fans find Itachi to be a bad brother was all the trauma he had caused Sasuke. However, there is a lot more in play.
Their clan was about to start a coup d'état forcing a war within the Hidden Leaf Village. Itachi decided to kill his own clan, become the villain, and get exiled from the very village that he sought to protect just so that his younger brother can live unharmed. This sacrifice also led to Sasuke being traumatized.
However, Itachi Uchiha did everything in his power to ensure that his brother was safe.
Fans began to question the person who posted the tweet, and wondered if they even watched the Naruto series. In a series of tweets, Naruto fans also expressed their displeasure towards the One Piece fans as well.
The Naruto fanbase went on to show their support to Itachi as a character. Fans also believed that he was the better brother in comparison to Portgas D. Ace.
One person in the comments section raised an interesting point about the respective characters from One Piece and Naruto. This person stated that Ace was indeed a good brother to Monkey D. Luffy. However, he wouldn't be able to do what Itachi did.
Given the circumstances, Itachi chose the route that the entire village and his younger brother would benefit at the cost of his own clan's life and his life. Sure, he didn't die, but he could not live the life of an average shinobi that adored Konohagakure. As per this person, Ace would not have been able to take such drastic measures for his younger brother.

Both Itachi and Ace were important characters in the Naruto and One Piece series. They are well-written characters who played their roles based on the circumstances that each of them had. Instead of comparing the two, it would be nicer if we can appreciate the roles they played in the respective series, and understand why they are beloved by fans across the world.
