Wednesday, July 17, 2024, saw series author and illustrator Gege Akutami release some new celebratory artwork for their original Jujutsu Kaisen manga series. The artwork is specifically meant to celebrate the top three winners of the manga’s 4th and latest popularity poll, which were the characters of Satoru Gojo, Yuji Itadori, and Megumi Fushiguro from first to third.

The fourth popularity poll results were first shared by X user and reputable series leaker @Go_Jover (Myamura) in early June 2024. Gojo’s victory was considered especially remarkable in what’s likely the manga’s last popularity poll, as he had failed to eclipse either Yuji or Megumi in any of the three prior.

This artwork notably comes after the recent Jujutsu Kaisen exhibition event, during which Akutami gave multiple interviews, shared new artwork, and more. Likewise, information and artwork from the exhibition continue to be released, with Myamura posting an image of Gege’s alleged new author avatar, which seemingly debuted at the exhibition.

Gege follows up news of Shinjuku arc as Jujutsu Kaisen’s last with new celebratory artwork and more

Gege’s new artwork of the trio, which seemingly comes from this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump issue, features Jujutsu Kaisen’s central trio in completely new outfits and, in some cases, character designs. However, with the Weekly Shonen Jump issue not quite out yet, the artwork was first shared by Myamura as a part of the spoiler process. While the series is on break this week and won’t release a full issue, there is always the opportunity for the artwork to be shared.

The illustration sees Yuji, Megumi, and Gojo all given new outfits, with the latter pair also having their designs overhauled. Gojo’s is the most significantly changed, with his hairstyle completely different and now wearing orange sunglasses rather than the black round lenses, or a blindfold. Gojo’s outfit is also completely different from anything he’s worn in the series before, as is the case for Megumi and Yuji.

Megumi’s biggest change is also his hair, which is now much shorter and stylized in a completely different way. Megumi’s outfit is also vastly different, seeing him wear a large, puffy jacket and pants with orange gloves and what appears to be orange snow boots as well. Yuji is similarly changed in terms of outfit, wearing a similarly puffy and shaped cream-colored jacket adorned with various straps. Yuji is still at least wearing his hoodie outfit underneath.

In addition to the above artwork, the mangaka also revealed a new author avatar for himself. While still a cat with one eye, this new version is much more “chibi” and soft than the previous one, which still had an air of realism to it. A notable change is that the new avatar’s tail appears to be the pen, whereas the previous avatar was often seen holding a pen in some renditions.
