On December 27, 2024, Kadokawa announced the manga adaptation of the 2025 Anne of Green Gables anime (Anne Shirley), set to begin serialization in B's-Log comic magazine on January 5, 2025. The anime series is based on a novel series from 1908 that previously received Japanese anime and manga adaptations in the 1900s.
Anne of Green Gables is a classic novel series written by author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The series was first serialized by L.C. Page & Co. and was translated into Japanese in 1952, leading to a boom in the anime and manga industry.

As confirmed by the official X handle of B's-Log comic magazine, Anne of Green Gables, the anime-inspired manga adaptation, is set to receive a manga adaptation, titled the same as the anime, Anne Shirley. The manga will be using the compiled story from the anime, which is set to be released in Spring 2025.
The original story of the manga is credited to the original novel series written by Canadian author Lucy Maud Montgomery. The serialization of the manga series will begin in the magazine's volume 144 on January 5, 2025.
The novel series was first published on June 13, 1908. Hanako Muraoka, a Japanese novelist known for translating various works by Lucy Maud Montgomery, translated the series in 1952 under the name Akage no Anne.
The series received its first anime adaptation in 1979 by animation studio Nippon Animation. Future Ghibli animators were part of this anime, including Isao Takahata (director and screenwriter of Grave of the Fireflies) as the director, Hayao Miyazaki (original creator of Spirited Away) as the layout designer, and Yoshifumi Kondou (animation director of Princess Mononoke).
Additionally, an earlier manga adaptation was illustrated by Yumiko Igarashi (illustrator of Candy Candy) in 1997. Anne of Green Gables anime, titled Anne Shirley, was announced on November 19, 2024. The anime series will be animated by The Answer Studio (known for Tower of God season 2) and has yet to receive any major update since then.
Anne of Green Gables synopsis
Anne of Green Gables is a drama series centered around the main protagonist, Anne Shirley. She is an 11-year-old orphan who isn't adopted by anyone due to her short temper and bold personality. However, she is mistakenly sent to the house of Marilla and Matthew Cuthbert, two unmarried siblings, who requested a boy.
After finding out that Anne is a boy, a debate starts, but the siblings keep her to help with their farm. From that point on, the anime follows Anne's journey from age 11 to 17, as she encounters different emotions from sadness to true love.
