Notably, the narrative of Lucy Maud Montgomery's first novel from the Anne of Green Gables series centers around an 11-year-old orphan girl named Anne Shirley, who is mistakenly sent to Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert, two middle-aged siblings.

They originally wanted to adopt a boy to assist them on their farm. The first novel tells the tale of Anne's adventure in school and the fictional town of Avonlea in Prince Edward, Canada.

The new Anne of Green Gables anime, titled Anne Shirley, will depict the titular heroine's growth from a girl to a woman and show her growing bond with her siblings, Matthew and Marilla. At the same time, the anime will explore her friendship with Diana and her budding romance with Gilbert. Notably, some of these narratives appear in the later sequel novels of Montgomery's work.
