Attack on Titan - The Last Attack anime film was released in Japan on November 7, 2024. Its anime-original post-credits scene was also revealed, which was the anime adaptation of the end credits chapter titled Attack on Titan Casts present in volume 34.

Attack on Titan is based on a manga series, written and illustrated by Hajime Isayama. The manga series has 34 volumes in publication which are also present in some other versions like the Colossal Edition (7 volumes) and Omnibus Edition (12 volumes). The series also released The Best of Attack on Titan: In Color (2 volumes) featuring the best panels from the manga series.

Attack on Titan - The Last Attack adapts the end credits chapter as its post-credit scene

Attack on Titan - The Last Attack movie was supposed to feature an original scene in its post-credits. However, as revealed during the movie's premiere in Japan, this post-credit scene was the anime adaptation of the manga's end credits panels.

The manga series' ending credit panels, titled Attack on Titan Casts, featured the main protagonist trio (Eren Yeager, Armin Arlett, and Mikasa Ackerman). The scene saw the protagonist trio as the spectators of the series, just like the audience, and didn't take place in a fictional world.

The first panel, after the final chapter, saw the protagonist trio sitting on their seats in the cinema with Marco sitting behind them (who looked the same as the way he died). As the trio walked out of the cinema, Mikasa and Eren appreciated the final episode, and the former stated that every character received a proper send-off.

However, Armin begged to differ because he was following the fansites and stated that there were too many loose ends in the final episode. This was followed by a debate between Mikasa and Armin: the former stated that leaving the series on an open end was good, and the latter said that the author at least needed to clarify some things that weren't obvious to the masses.

They then directed their debate at Eren and asked his thoughts about the final episode. Eren didn't answer their question but mentioned that he loved watching movies with Mikasa and Armin and if the series ever made a sequel, they all should again visit the cinemas together. Mikasa and Armin looked at each other with awkward gazes and moved on.

The last panels of the end credits panels depicted the main protagonist trio in shock over the existence of Titans in the past. However, one of them questioned this because there was no telling how much the series was based on real history. Ironically, one of them stated that it would be cool if the trio from the series actually existed in real life.

Final thoughts

A non-anime-original scene did add to the disappointment of the fandom, who were expecting some kind of teaser for the sequel, the Attack on Titan Casts might have also teased a sequel with Eren's dialogue. Moreover, these ending credit panels might have been the author's depiction of his fandom because he probably knew the majority wouldn't like the conclusion he went with.
