Friday, September 20, 2024, saw the Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League anime film reveal a new character video, which in turn highlighted additional Japanese cast members for the project. This includes the voices of Robin, Nightwing, Alfred, Jim Gordon, Redhood, and Red Robin. Koichi Yamadera was previously announced as returning to the franchise to voice Bruce Wayne/Batman.
The new promotional video for the Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League anime film also highlights the film’s base plot, as well as the action fans can expect from the project when it hits theaters. As of this article’s writing, the project has no release date or release window but is confirmed to have a presence at New York Comic-Con 2024. It’s likewise expected that this is where the film’s release window or possibly even release date will be revealed.
Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League anime film casts Yuki Kaji, Daisuke Ono, Kengo Kawanishi, and more
The latest Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League anime film promotional video revealed six new Japanese cast members in total. They are Yuki Kaji, Kengo Kawanishi, Daisuke Ono, Akira Ishida, Hochu Ohtsuka, and Masaki Terasoma, respectively playing Robin, Red Robin, Nightwing, Red Hood, Alfred, and Jim Gordon. As mentioned above, Koichi Yamadera was previously announced as returning to the franchise to voice Bruce Wayne/Batman.
As also mentioned above, the film’s presence at New York Comic-Con’s “Bats in Translation” panel on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at 3 pm EDT is expected to announce a release window. The film will likely be premiering by early 2025 at the latest, with a late 2024 premiere possible, but seemingly unlikely given this latest promotional video is just the second for the project.
It’s also expected that additional cast will be announced, likely focusing on the film’s villains. In turn, it’s likely that the above casting announcements will be the final for Batman’s allies who’ll appear in the film. This is heavily supported by the fact that these latest casting announcements focus exclusively on Bruce Wayne’s allies and don’t mention any villainous castings whatsoever.
Junpei Mizusaki and Kamikaze Douga return from the previous film Batman Ninja to direct the Batman Ninja vs. Yakuza League anime film sequel project alongside Shinji Takagi. Douga is also animating the film, with additional returning staff members including scriptwriter Kazuki Nakashima, character designer Takashi Okazaki, and composer Yugo Kanno.
The original Batman Ninja film premiered in April 2018 via digital formats, getting a home video release the following month, which included both the original Japanese and English dubs. The film hit Japanese theaters in June 2018 with the Japanese voice cast and later aired on Toonami in October 2021. The film focused on Batman traveling back in time to Japan’s Warring States periods, defeating iconic villains like The Joker, who had become feudal lords.
