Blade & Bastard anime announced for production

On Sunday, October 20, 2024, DRE Novels shared an announcement PV and visual to confirm the production of Blade & Bastard anime. Simultaneously, the series' official X (formerly Twitter) handle has shared the news. However, no details concerning the anime's release date, cast or staff were revealed.

Blade & Bastard anime is based on the eponymous dark fantasy light novel series, written by Kumo Kagyu, famous as the author of Goblin Slayer, and illustrated by So-bin, whom fans also know as the illustrator of the Overlord light novels.

The dark fantasy light novel was released on December 9, 2024, worldwide, in Japanese and English translations. DRE Novels publishes the novels in Japanese, while J-Novel company releases them in English.

The official website of DRE Novels announced on Sunday, October 20, 2024, that Blade & Bastard anime, based on the dark fantasy light novel by author Kumo Kagyu and So-bin, has been green-lit for production. The company has also shared an announcement PV on its official YouTube channel.

The same video and a teaser visual illustrated by the original artist, So-bin, have been shared by the dark fantasy light novel series' official X account. Notably, the visual depicts the protagonist, Iarumas, and the female swordsman, Garbage. On the other hand, the announcement PV features colored portraits of the series' main characters, including Iarumas, Garbage, and Ainikki.

Comments from the author Kumo Kagyu and the illustrator So-bin have arrived. The author is ecstatic at the prospect of a Wizardry anime and has asked fans to look forward to the world of Wizardry.

On the other hand, So-bin, comments on how lively and charming the characters are. As such, he hopes the anime adaptation will be interesting.

Besides Kumo Kagyu and So-bin, the official staff has shared a celebratory visual and comment from Makoto Kaedetsuki, who is in charge of the light novel's manga adaptation. The visual depicts Garbage opening a treasure chest, with Iarumas, Belkanan, and Laraja peering from behind. Makoto-san also looks forward to the anime adaptation.

Blade & Bastard anime will follow the dark fantasy story written by Kumo. It's a labyrinth adventure story that takes place in the Wizardry RPG's world. The narrative follows Iarumas, an adventurer, who has lost his memory.

He spends his days diving into the dungeons, retrieving the adventurers' corpses at the request of a temple that resurrects them. One day, he meets a girl, called Garbage, who happens to be the only survivor of her party. Thus, the anime will explore Iarumas and Garbage's adventures in the dungeons.
