On Monday, September 16, 2024, Netflix dropped a new trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. With this, the streaming platform has also revealed the series' January 2025 release window. Unfortunately, no other major news has been announced alongside the release of the promotional video. But fans can expect more information to be shared in the coming weeks and months.
However, the promotional video does show fans what to expect from Castlevania: Nocturne season 2, primarily in the teamup between Richter Belmont and Alucard of the original series. New characters and creatures also seemingly appear in the teaser, with a notable one coming at its end and seemingly setting up Richter and Alucard’s main obstacle.
Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 confirms a Richter and Alucard teamup in new trailer
The new trailer for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2 begins immediately with dialogue from Alucard, who asks Richter Belmont for some help. This leads into varying scenes with a focus on several characters, such as Maria Renard and others from season 1.
Three new creatures are also seemingly introduced - some sort of a bird which is obscured by lens flare, a shadowy figure residing in a church, and a vampire-like creature with fiery red hair. This then transitions into a shot of Alucard raising his sword and lighting it ablaze with red flame, while Richter tightens his whip in his hands and lit it with blue flame.
The trailer is seemingly setting this final creature, or possibly even all three creatures, as the pair’s main enemies throughout the course of the second season. Unfortunately, the trailer ends immediately thereafter, confirming the aforementioned January 2025 release window.
The first season of Castlevania: Nocturne premiered in September 2023, and ran for eight episodes. The series features the pair of Richter and Maria, who also appear in the original video game franchise.
They serve as dual protagonists in Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, and appear in other games such as Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. The series is set in France during 1792’s French Revolution, and serves as an origin story for Richter.
Richter is a descendant of the original Castlevania animated series’ Trevor Belmont and Sypha Belnades. The original series premiered on Netflix worldwide in July 2017 with a four-episode season. This was followed by an eight-episode second season in October 2018, a 10-episode third in March 2020, and another 10-episode fourth and final season in May 2021.
Kevin Kolde is the showrunner for Nocturne, while Clive Bradley is credited as the creator and writer. Project 51 Productions is animating and producing the series, alongside Powerhouse Animation.
It is expected that all of these core staff members and production companies are returning for Castlevania: Nocturne season 2. Fans can also expect a returning cast, as well as new cast members being announced in the coming weeks and months.
