However, no pertinent details concerning the anime's release date, cast and staff, or the production studio were revealed as of this writing. Even though the news hasn't been confirmed officially, the leaker's past records of leaking verified animanga news give it credibility.
Cat's Eye anime remake is allegedly green-lit for production
On Tuesday, November 12, 2024, an X user named Sugoi LITE (@SugoiLITE), tweeted to reveal that the Cat's Eye anime remake is in the works. However, the user didn't disclose the release date, cast and staff, and other pertinent details concerning the anime's production. Notably, an official confirmation is yet to be made.
That said, the user has a decent record of leaking anime-related news ahead of their official confirmation. For example, the user correctly predicted the production of the Ranma 1/2 anime remake, the Omniscient Reader's Viewpoint anime, and others. As such, there's a good chance that an official confirmation of the Cat's Eye anime remake will come soon.
Notably, the anime is based on the City Hunter's mangaka, Tsukasa Hojo's famous Japanese manga series of the same name. Shuheisha's Weekly Shonen Jump serialized the classic manga from 1981 to 1985, collecting its chapters into 18 tankobon volumes.
Under the production of Tokyo Movie Shinsha, Tsukasa Hojo's manga received its first anime adaptation, with Yoshio Takeuchi at the helm of affairs. The anime aired 36 episodes from July 1983 to March 1984. Later, a second series titled The She-Cat from France, was produced and ran for 37 episodes from October 1984 to July 1985.
ImaginAsian broadcast the anime's first installment in 2007 on the the ImaginAsianTV. Later, Right Stuf Inc. acquired the license to release the anime's DVD version in 2013. Notably, in 2019, the series' main characters, the Kitsugi sisters, appeared in the film, City Hunter the Movie: Shinjuku Private Eyes, as an iconic crossover between Tsukasa Hojo's two works.
Undoubtedly, the Cat's Eye anime remake will channel nostalgia among fans who watched the series in the 80s. At the same time, the anime will look to attract a new anime fanbase with its captivating plot, something that Ranma 1/2 has already been doing with its ongoing remake season.
About the anime
The Cat's Eye anime remake will likely explore the same narrative from Tsukasa Hojo's manga. The narrative centers on the three Kisugi sisters, Rui, Hitomi, and Ai, who run a small cafe during the day. Interestingly, they want to probe into the disappearance of their father, the artist Michael Heintz.
As such, the three sisters rob art galleries as the mysterious thief, "Cat's Eye," in the hope that their father's works can provide them with clues regarding his disappearance. Add to this, Hitomi is in a relationship with a police inspector named Toshi, who vows to catch the infamous thieves, unaware of his girlfriend's dual persona.
