Wednesday, July 10, 2024, saw Crunchyroll announce they're hosting a One Piece 25th anniversary concert and a concert for Demon Slayer's LiSA at the San Diego Comic-Con at the end of July 2024. The latter performance is being held as a part of the company’s “Crunchyroll Concert Series” and will be held at Comic-Con International in San Diego on Friday, July 26, 2024.
The former concert, officially titled the “One Piece 25th Anniversary: Symphonic Voyage,” will be performed by the San Diego Philharmonic Orchestra and held at Comic-Con on Saturday, July 27.
Both concerts will be free to attend for those Comic-Con International badge holders attending the convention in San Diego, but “limited to a first-come, first-serve basis and subject to capacity.” Both will be held at the same venue, which boasts a 10,000-person capacity.
One Piece celebratory concert, Demon Slayer opening artist LiSA's concert both set to be unticketed events
In other words, this means that neither the celebratory One Piece concert nor LiSA’s performance will be ticketed, outside of the aforementioned badge holder caveat. Likewise, fans will not be able to reserve a seat in any way and should prioritize getting to each performance as early as possible to ensure a seat. LiSA’s performance will be held at the Rade Shell at Jacobs Park in San Diego.
The performance will mark LiSA’s first in the United States since Anime Boston 2015. Her “LiVE is SMiLE ALWAYS -LANDER-” concert will be screened by Crunchyroll and Sony Pictures in North America. The screenings will be held on Saturday, August 17, Sunday, August 18, and Wednesday, August 21, 2024. The film’s footage highlights her sixth album LANDER’s concert tour, which held shows throughout Japan from September to December 2023.
Meanwhile, the 25th Anniversary: Symphonic Voyage concert is a part of the television anime’s 25th anniversary celebrations, with its formal anniversary on October 20. It will be held at 7 pm Pacific Daylight Time (PDT) on July 27, also at The Rady Shell at Jacobs Park. The live outdoor concert is said to have been produced specifically for this year’s Comic-Con International.
The 25th anniversary concert will feature a 90-minute musical experience, performed by the 40+ piece San Diego Symphony. Spectacles used will include aerial pyrotechnics, which are said to be based on some of the most memorable moments from the anime series. The line for the show will start at 4 pm PDT, with doors opening at 5 pm PDT.
The anime serves as the official television anime adaptation of author and illustrator Eiichiro Oda’s original manga series of the same name. Oda’s original manga first began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in July 1997, where it is still ongoing and serialized today, but in its Final Saga. The manga celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2022.
