On July 8, 2024, the biggest anime streaming platform, Crunchyroll, removed the option to comment on its platform. This applied to not only the streaming platform but also to the website where the platform published articles.
The streaming platform is an American subscription service owned by Sony Group Corporation. The platform was founded in 2006 and is well-known as one of the few ways to access the medium 'anime' without any sort of piracy. As of 2024, the streaming service has received almost 13 million paid users who want to watch anime legally.

Crunchyroll removes the option to comment
The streaming platform has removed the option for the fandom to share their opinions by ending the option to comment. This was applied not only to the episodes but also to their articles. Moreover, any past comments that existed on the platform were also removed.
The streaming platform stated the reason behind this change on their support center:
"At Crunchyroll, we prioritize creating a safe and respectful community environment. To maintain this standard, we are removing all existing user-generated content, including comments and reviews, across all our platforms and experiences. The user ratings system will, however, remain, allowing you to express your opinions through star ratings."
As suggested by the streaming platform's statement above, hateful comments from some fans might have created issues, which led to the platform ending the option to comment.
The streaming platform started its journey in 2006. It started by airing East Asian shows on its platforms that were subtitled by fans. Soon enough, the platform started to receive criticism from the masses and other streaming websites.
It was not until January 2009 that the platform signed a deal for the famous Shounen anime series Naruto Shippuden with TV Tokyo. This was the start of the streaming platform's rise as a legally approved anime streaming site. The platform also tried to take a shot at making manga legally available for everyone through Crunchyroll Manga.
Where the anime streaming platform continued its rise, the manga website didn't see much growth, and the owners shut it down in November 2023. Crunchyroll manga released popular titles on its platform, such as Attack on Titan, Fairy Tail, and Seven Deadly Sins.
In January 2016, the anime streaming platform announced its partnership with the American anime streaming giant Funimation, and almost six years later, these two streaming services were merged, forming an ultimate platform for streaming anime legally.
In February 2024, the streaming platform announced the testing of the use of Artificial Intelligence for subtitles, and in April 2024, it announced multiple users on a single account, making it more accessible and affordable for the anime-loving community.
Final thoughts
In November 2021, the biggest video-sharing platform in the world, YouTube, removed the dislike button as a way to keep the mental health of its users healthy. This anime streaming platform could be doing the same by removing individual opinions, as some people don't hold back on sharing their opinions.
While rude opinions can be taken as constructive criticism, they are not for everyone. To cope with such an issue, it is necessary to deal with it from its roots by holding people back from sharing individual opinions.
