Wednesday, October 30, 2024 saw Crunchyroll announce that it would begin streaming the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film starting on Thursday, October 31, 2024. Crunchyroll also confirmed that the film would go live on their platform worldwide at exactly 8PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT), except in Asia, France, and Southern Africa.
Crunchyroll will stream the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film in Japanese with subtitles, as well as in multiple dubbed languages including English and more. The film’s streaming date comes over eight months after its initial run in Japanese theaters, and five months to the day after it began streaming in North American theaters.
Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film becomes one of Crunchyroll’s biggest Fall 2024 titles
As mentioned above, the Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film will be streaming on Crunchyroll in a number of different dubbed languages. These include English, Latin American Spanish, Brazilian Portuguese, French, German, Italian, Castillian Spanish, and Catalan. It is unclear as of this article’s writing whether or not additional languages will be added. However, all of the above named language dubs will be available immediately upon release.
In Japan, the film sold 1.529 million tickets for 2,230,465,540 yen (roughly US$14.12 million) in its first three days in theaters, premiering on Friday, February 16. In the United States, the film earned US$3.5 million in its first full weekend in American theaters, which began on Friday, May 31, 2024. The film screened in American theaters with both its English dub and the original Japanese language with English subtitles.
The Haikyu!! The Dumpster Battle anime film’s arrival to streaming services likewise marks the end of the release cycle for the first film in the larger Haikyu!! Final project. The sequel film project is seeking to adapt the rest of Haruichi Furudate’s original Haikyu!! manga series in a two-part film, with The Dumpster Battle being the first film in that project. As of this article’s writing, there is no official information regarding the second film.
These films follow four seasons of a television anime adaptation from Production I.G which was wildly popular with fans. The first season aired in April 2014 and ran for 25 episodes, followed by a 25-episode second season in October 2015. This was followed by a 10-episode third season in October 2016. The 25-episode fourth season was released in two parts, with 12 episodes airing From January to April 2020, and the other 13 from October to December 2020.
Furudate’s original maga series ran in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine from February 2012 to July 2020. The manga has since released additional one-shot epilogue chapters on occasion. The manga’s 402 chapters were collected into 45 compilation volumes, all of which are available in English.
