Friday, January 4, 2025 saw Dandadan mangaka Yukinobu Tatsu recommend his fellow former Chainsaw Man assistant Tohru Kuramori’s Centuria manga on the cover of its third volume. Kuramori even posted to their official X (formerly Twitter) account about the recommendation, thanking Tatsu for his recommendation and how happy it made them.
Kuramori’s Centuria was also previously recommended by Chainsaw Man mangaka Tatsuki Fujimoto. The series has slowly but steadily risen up in the MANGA Plus rankings since its debut, and is now at a point many fans would consider “safe” relative to Shueisha’s typical practices. However, Kuramori nevertheless urges fans to buy copies of the manga and support it to ensure it avoids cancellation.
Kuramori’s Centuria now has recommendations from both Chainsaw Man and Dandadan’s creators
Unfortunately, the full text of Tatsu’s recommendation for Centuria has yet to be translated into English as of this article’s writing. However, a picture of it was shared to Kuramori’s X post, also revealing the third volume cover. The cover features Angvall holding Diana as the two smile, with the sun seemingly setting behind them. At the bottom of the front cover is where the recommendation can be seen.
As mentioned above, both Kuramori and Tatsu served as assistants to Fujimoto on Chainsaw Man before starting Centuria and Dandadan, respectively. This is likewise why the fanbases of the three intersect so much; there are commonalities between the three which become much clearer with the knowledge of how they’re connected. While they are each unique series nonetheless, it’s clear their creators’ professional origins are the same.
While it has yet to crack the top-ten rankings on MANGA Plus, Kuramori’s Centuria has proven to be a fan-favorite despite lacking a wide fanbase. The series has yet to exit MANGA Plus’ top 25 series since debuting, let alone slip into the 20s. As mentioned above, the series has even steadily risen to top-15 in recent weeks. Kuramori also recently took a break week, typically viewed as a good sign for a series’ success and longevity.
Tatsu’s Dandadan manga began serialization in Shueisha’s Shonen Jump+ digital catalogue in April 2021, and is still ongoing there today. 156 of the manga’s 179 currently released chapters have been collected into 18 compilation volumes, the 18th of which also went on sale in Japan today. Of these 18, 14 are either currently released or planned for release in English.
Fujimoto’s Chainsaw Man manga first began serialization in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in December 2018, where it ran until ending its first part in December 2020. The manga returned in July 2022, but switched to the Shonen Jump+ catalogue, where it is still ongoing today. 175 of the manga’s currently released 188 chapters have been collected into 19 compilation volumes, 18 of which are available or planned for release in English.
