While September is an exciting month in anime and manga for many reasons, the Demon Slayer Live in Concert musical event is undoubtedly one to be especially excited about. The musical event will pair the television anime’s Unwavering Resolve arc with a live orchestra in two different showings at two different venues in the United States.
Ahead of Demon Slayer Live in Concert’s opening, Sportskeeda Anime spoke with Floris Douwes, the production’s co-producer and the Managing Director of GEA Live. Sportskeeda Anime spoke with Douwes regarding how the production came about, the process of crafting it, what issues the team faced, what they’re most proud of, and more.
Demon Slayer Live in Concert’s Floris Douwes discusses the production’s biggest challenges, proudest moments, and more
Speaking with Douwes, Sportskeeda's first question focused on how the production came to be and whether or not Shueisha and Ufotable studios played an active role in its inception, with Douwes responding:
“Yes, both Shueisha and Ufotable are partners in the project. Their involvement has been important in bringing the world of Demon Slayer to life in this unique concert format.”

Douwes was then asked what the process of crafting such a show was like, specifically with respect to the selection process, how many team members were involved, and more:
“We aimed to build an experience that faithfully represents the essence of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, Unwavering Resolve Arc. We have rearranged the music for the live concert experience by bringing in a musical ensemble that includes a core rhythmic section to deliver a fresh and dynamic live sound. We selected the most iconic scenes from the episodes to be shown on a giant screen behind the musicians. The selection process was both challenging and inspiring, as we wanted to do justice to the emotional depth and visual grandeur of the anime and its music. We worked with a team that included the series' original producer and one of Japan’s most renowned arrangers, and their expertise was crucial. Every member of the production team brought their unique skills to the table, resulting in a truly collaborative and passionate effort.”
Sportskeeda then asked Douwes what aspects of Demon Slayer anime helped make it such a captivating series in the West, such as its scope, themes, and visual appeal. Specifically, Douwes was asked to compare what made the series so much more captivating to Western audiences relative to other anime series:
“Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, Unwavering Resolve Arc appeals to Western audiences because it touches on many universal themes like family, determination, and sacrifice. The characters are relatable, each with their own struggles, which helps viewers connect with them. The way the series combines intense action with heartfelt moments, set to a beautiful musical score, leaves a lasting impression on audiences.”

The interview’s focus then shifted to the production of the concert itself and the biggest obstacles Douwes and co had to overcome when producing the concert overall:
“One of the most significant challenges was the sheer number of iconic moments to choose from. Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, Tanjiro Kamado Unwavering resolve arc, is filled with scenes and music that have left a lasting impact on fans, and narrowing them down was no easy task. We wanted to ensure that the selected scenes and compositions not only represented the heart of the story but also flowed seamlessly within the concert’s structure. Ultimately, our team did an incredible job curating a selection that balances action, emotion, music and visual, ensuring that the concert offers a comprehensive and satisfying experience.”
Sportskeeda also asked Douwes if there were any specific moments in the production which the team is most proud, and if so, what they are and why:
“There’s a collective pride in the entire production, but if we had to highlight something, it would be the synergy between the visuals and the live orchestra. The way the music elevates the emotional weight of the scenes is something we’re particularly proud of. Seeing the final result, where every note and every visual detail comes together, is something that fills us with a lot of pride.”

Lastly, Sportskeeda asked what Douwes and the other producers behind the concert hoped both longtime fans and newcomers to the anime would get from the Demon Slayer Live in Concert production:
“For longtime fans, we hope this concert deepens their appreciation for the Demon Slayer: Kimetsu No Yaiba, Unwavering Resolve Arc soundtrack, allowing them to hear and experience it in a new way. The live performance brings out nuances in the music that might not be as noticeable in the anime, offering a richer understanding of how the score enhances the narrative. For newcomers, we aim to introduce them to the emotional and aesthetic power of the series, using the music as a gateway to the world of Demon Slayer. Ultimately, we want everyone to walk away with a renewed sense of awe for the artistry behind both the music and the story itself.”
What to expect from Demon Slayer Live in Concert and how to access
The Demon Slayer Live in Concert show will pair scenes from the Unwavering Resolve story arc with live orchestral music. The Unwavering Resolve arc combines the arcs that include and are in between the Final Selection arc and the Rehabilitation Training arc. In other words, it’s an arc that covers the span of the anime’s first season/26 episodes and the first 53 chapters of Mangaka Koyoharu Gotouge’s original series.
Demon Slayer Live in Concert will be held on Saturday, September 21, 2024, at the Kings Theatre in Brooklyn, New York, and Saturday, September 28, 2024, at the Golden Gate Theatre in San Francisco, California.
The Kings Theatre is offering showings at 2 PM and 8 PM Eastern Time, while the Golden Gate Theatre is offering showings at 1 PM and 7:30 PM Pacific Time. As of the writing of this article, these are the only event dates currently available on the official website.
However, the website also says that there “certainly” are “upcoming show announcements on the horizon,” suggesting that more venues will likely be announced at a later date. Demon Slayer Live in Concert, unfortunately, has no confirmed streaming information at this time. However, with the concert being presented by Crunchyroll, the platform could likely be the concert’s streaming home if it ever makes the jump.
