Demon Slayer has ranked number 1 on a list of “Top 5 favorite anime and manga”, as per a survey conducted by a Japanese source. The survey pool comprised Gen Alpha, a term for people born between 2010 and 2014.
The results of the survey were released on June 18, 2024, and it was circulated on various social media platforms like X. This was a thorough survey that also looked into the popularity of various music artists, YouTubers, TikTokers, actors, and more.
The results of the manga and anime popularity poll clearly indicate that Koyoharu Gotouge's magnum opus is one of the most entertaining modern shonen anime. This title stuck to a formula that worked and perfected it by adding fresh elements for an entertaining viewing experience.
Recent survey reveals Demon Slayer’s popularity among Gen Alpha
As stated, a survey of 600 participants conducted by a Japanese organization, α Generation Lab, revealed that Demon Slayer was the choice of anime among the Gen Alpha crowd.
According to the organization, the participants were parents of children who studied in grades 1-3 in elementary school. The children could answer the questions in the presence of their parents. The survey was conducted between June 3 and June 4, 2024.
The results were published on June 18, 2024. The most popular titles were Demon Slayer, Detective Conan, Spy x Family, One Piece, and Oshi no Ko. Despite five entries, Koyoharu Gotouge’s title amassed 40 percent of the votes.
This is a clear indication that the popularity of the series is not falling as the series progresses. That being said, it was interesting to see that Detective Conan continues to remain popular among this age group despite its release way back in 1996. While the target audience might be slightly older than the participants of the survey, it remains a good indicator of people’s perception of the show.
The Swordsmith Village arc wasn’t particularly the most entertaining segment of Demon Slayer. However, the current Hashira Training arc has impressed the viewers, leaving them satisfied with the release of every episode.
The series’ success has a strong connection with the animation studio that produced it. Ufotable, the animation studio has pushed the boundaries in this field, creating some of the most stunning visuals anime consumers have seen in some time.
Furthermore, the studio's ability to remain consistent with the animation made the Shonen title stand out. The top-tier animation paired with the masterfully written characters that drive the narrative results in an extremely entertaining viewing experience. The numbers indicate that the series hasn't fallen off and is on the road to becoming one of the best modern shonen titles.
