Sunday, November 3, 2024, saw Kadokawa reveal a new promotional video for the upcoming Detectives These Days Are Crazy! anime, which most notably unveiled a new cast member. Likewise, the promotional video didn’t feature any actual footage from the series, instead introducing these new characters on the predication of a Japanese language-based joke.
The key visual featured the newly announced characters, all of whom are featured in the promotional video given their involvement in the aforementioned language joke. The three new Detectives These Days Are Crazy! anime characters will all be voiced by Tomokazu Sugita, best known as the voice of Gintama’s Gintoki Sakata, Demon Slayer’s Gyomei Himejima, and Joseph Joestar in JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

As mentioned above, the latest promotional video for the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! anime is predicated on a language-based pun. The video and accompanying visual commemorate “Li Ossan no Hi,” which translates to “Good Middle-Aged Man Day.” This is a pun on November 3, as the number 11 looks like “li” and the number “03” can be pronounced as “oh” and “san.”
The promotional video likewise introduces three new middle-aged characters for the series, all of whom will be voiced by Tomokazu Sugita as mentioned above. These are the characters of Nipple-Tasting Man, Cross Chest Hair Man, and Man Who Likes Ropes. As of this article’s writing, these appear to be the characters’ official names according to the anime series’ official website.
The key visual features each of these four characters in muscle-flexing poses, alongside protagonist Keiichiro Nagumo. The text at the bottom of the visual reads “The Big Four of Yabee Ojisan.” The promotional video sees Sugita preview his voices for each of these three different characters in the upcoming series.
Protagonist Nagumo will be voiced by Junichi Suwabe, with other starring cast including Kana Hanazawa as Mashiro, Tomohiro Yamaguchi as Yu Asunaro, and Aya Hirano as Hana Kazamaki. Rion Kujo will direct the Detectives These Days Are Crazy! anime, but no other info regarding the anime’s staff or animation studio has been revealed as of this article’s writing. The series is officially confirmed for a general 2025 release window.
The Detectives These Days Are Crazy! anime will adapt the original manga of the same name written and illustrated by Masakuni Igarashi. The manga began in April 2016 in ASCII Media Works’ Dengeki Maoh magazine and is still ongoing today. One Peace Books will publish the manga’s first of 15 volumes in English on April 28, 2025, describing the story:
“Behold, a great detective who thrills the world solving impossible cases in no time! His name? Keiichiro Nagumo. …But all of that was over a decade ago. Now he's just your typical middle-aged dude. Nagumo is behind the times to the point that he doesn't even know what a smartphone is."
It continues:
"But out of the blue, he is confronted by a high school girl named Mashiro who shows up wanting to be his assistant. Witness the miracles a gender-gap detective duo can make!”
