On Friday, November 1, 2024, TV Asahi announced that Doraemon anime will get a special opening theme sequence starting November 9, 2024, to commemorate the 45th anniversary of the franchise's movie series in 2025. The new opening song will replace the current one, which debuted in October 2019.
According to the announcement, the opening sequence will feature iconic moments from the numerous films from the franchise, with Mao's Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon, as the song. Notably, this song was the third opening theme for the ongoing television anime series.
Doraemon anime's new opening sequence to replace the ongoing one after five years
TV Asahi's official website revealed on Friday, November 1, 2024, that Doraemon anime will receive a new opening sequence to celebrate the franchise's 45th anniversary for the film series. The new opening sequence will commence on November 9, 2024, and feature various iconic scenes from the franchise's movies, both classics and more recent ones.
Besides the visuals and scenes from the films, the new opening sequence will feature Mao's Yume wo Kanaete Doraemon theme song, which used to be the third opening theme for the currently airing television anime series. At the same time, TV Asahi revealed that the opening theme will have different versions.
Notably, the current opening sequence, featuring Gen Hoshino's song, was released in October 2019. The song, which has graced fans for over five years, will be broadcast for one final time on November 2, 2024. Following its broadcast, a creditless version will be available on the franchise's official YouTube channel.
Besides that, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for the franchise posted an image on Friday, November 9, 2024, thanking Gen Hoshino for his song. The visual features the beloved robo cat, who nods and appreciates the song, calling it a "good song."
About the series
Doraemon anime is based on mangaka Fujiko Fujio's famous manga series of the same name, which debuted in 1969. Since then, the manga inspired three television anime adaptations, which were collectively telecast on Japanese TV channels for four decades.
The adaptations include series, TV specials, and yearly movies. Notably, the third TV series was released in April 2005, with a new main voice actor. Recently, the franchise announced that it would release the 44th film on March 7, 2025, to commemorate the film series' 45th anniversary. The film is titled The Tale of Nobita's Picture World.
