Monday, November 11, 2024, saw Fairy Tail voice actor David Wald announce his intent to leave both the aforementioned anime production and Crunchyroll’s studio overall. This decision was announced via the personal X (formerly Twitter) account of Wald, who is not only an English dub voice actor, but also an ADR Director for several English dub productions.

The Fairy Tail voice actor’s decision comes as the culmination of Wald’s previous claims that Crunchyroll opened his private mail, threw away letters, and gave any items away to its staff. Crunchyroll has put out a statement saying they are investigating the situation and that they do not intentionally open mail or packages not intended for them.

Wald’s post to his X account earlier today is notably the first major update given on the situation from his end in quite some time. The Fairy Tail voice actor’s last post on the matter is also his last post period and came on Tuesday, October 29, 2024. Wald claimed he had received no apology or commitment to recover stolen items from the company, let alone a reply, period. Wald did acknowledge the general statement mentioned above in the replies.

Wald’s post earlier today claimed that Crunchyoll’s “abuses are FAR too numerous” to list on the platform, but promised to tell fans all of them soon via his Twitch channel. As of this article’s writing, Wald has yet to go live on the platform to share these numerous abuses. However, Wald has levied previous accusations against the company beyond the issue of his mail being opened and stolen in prior X posts.

These posts claim that there is “gay” and “medical discrimination” in the company, as well as “union busting,” a “continuous culture of fear,” and a “hostile workplace environment.” Wald’s post implied there was even more that could be discussed, given that it ominously ends on “or…” rather than finishing on a conclusive note. As of this article’s writing, Wald has not further elaborated on these claims levied against the company.

Wald has, however, maintained that he does not believe the employees are to blame. A post he made explaining his thought process here alleges that any items that employees unknowingly stole were due to the items being placed on the “company freebies table.” In other words, Wald believes that those who took the items didn’t realize they rightly belonged to him in the first place.

While Wald’s role as Gajeel would arguably be Crunchyroll’s most significant loss from his departure, he also has dozens of ADR Director roles for the company’s dubs. Although many of these are for completed series, there are some notable ongoing ones, such as Golden Kamuy, the technically in-hiatus Black Clover, and The Case Study of Vanitas.
