On Wednesday, July 31, 2024, the official X (formerly Twitter) account for Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's fantasy manga series, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End, announced that the series will return from hiatus on August 7, 2024. The manga will resume serializing on Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday in the combined 37th and 38th issues.
Notably, Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's fantasy manga went on hiatus on May 15, 2024, shortly after it returned on April 24, 2024, from its one-month break. The series will pick up the events from where it left off and continue with the elven mage's journey.
Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe launched the series in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday in April 2020. Since then, the manga has released 13 volumes. Recently, the manga-inspired an anime adaptation under Madhouse's production.
Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga to return from hiatus on August 7, 2024
The official X account for Kanehito Yamada and Tsukasa Abe's Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga tweeted on Wednesday, July 31, 2024, to announce that the fantasy series will resume its serialization on Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine, starting August 7, 2024.
The manga recently went on a hiatus in Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine's 25th issue on May 15, 2024. However, the magazine didn't reveal the reason behind the manga's sudden hiatus.
Before that, the series took a one-month break from March to April and then resumed on April 24, 2024. The manga also went on a hiatus in January 2023 and returned to serialization in the magazine in March 2023.
Notably, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga has released 130 chapters thus far. The narrative for the manga is currently focusing on the Foundation Festival Arc. In this arc, Frieren's party teams up with four First-Class Mages to protect Serie during the ball at the Imperial Capital's Foundation Festival.
As mentioned, Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga has released 13 volumes thus far. VIZ Media has acquired the license to release the manga in English. The company has published 10 volumes in English and scheduled the 11th volume's release on September 10, 2024.
Interestingly, the manga has 20 million copies in circulation, almost double prior to its anime adaptation. Madhouse produced the anime adaptation, which premiered on September 29, 2023, with a two-hour special episode on Nippon Television's Friday Anime Night programming slot.
About the manga
The narrative for Frieren: Beyond Journey's End manga follows Frieren, an elven mage who outlives her former party, with whom she had defeated the Demon King and brought prosperity and peace to the land.
However, she couldn't devote her time to understanding human emotions, especially Hero Himmel. Years later, Frieren goes on another journey, albeit with a different party, to learn more about human beings and discover a part of herself that she didn't know existed.
